Carolyn Eisenhower (Carol Speed) met Barry White, his wife Glodean, her sister Linda James, and their friend, Dianne Taylor at George Grief's office on Melrose in Los Angeles. Barry White's Love Unlimited singing group were composed of those three beautiful black women that surrounded him. George Grief managed Barry White, and his Love Unlimited Orchestra, as well as his Love Unlimited singing group. The interesting thing about George Grief was that he, also, managed a white minstrel group called the New Christie Minstrels. However, it was the creative Neil Bogart who produced Barry White on Casablanca Records that skyrocketed him on the music charts.
Carolyn Eisenhower and Glodean White became instant friends. One of the many highlights of their friendship was Glodean's baby shower at Director Billy Wilder's Bistro Restaurant in Beverly Hills. Carolyn Eisenhower loved the rich chandeliers in the Bistro, but the history of Billy Wilder's "Some Like It Hot," filmed at the Hotel del Coronado with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe was written all over the expensive wood at the Bistro. Everything at the Bistro oozed with history, including the long slightly curved, elegant, dark cherry wood bar. And the magnificent Hotel del Coronado in San Diego is where artist like Carolyn Eisenhower, Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Susan Hayward, Jean Harlow, Perry Como, Dorothy Dandridge, and Presidents of the United States like Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Gamaliel Harding, and other Heads of States vacationed.
People were known in Hollywood, and Beverly Hills to steal date and calender books. Carolyn Eisenhower didn't really keep a calender for that reason. So she confused the date of Glodean's Baby Show, and arrived at the Bistro a day early. Carolyn Eisenhower figured that she was too consumed with what gift to buy for Glodean White's baby who would be born with everything. Carolyn Eisenhower finaly seattled on a gift from David Orgell's in Beverly Hills. The Glodean White Baby Shower was upstairs in one of the Bistro's private rooms. Before Glodean White hugged Carolyn Eisenhower warmly, she asked her if she was okay, because she was a day early for the shower. Carolyn Eisenhower told Glodean White that she was fine, and was handling it. That she had so many engagements and that Glodean understood about keeping a lot of dates or engagements in her head. Glodean White smiled and nodded her head yes to Carolyn Eisenhower. Then Glodean White told everybody about Carolyn Eisenhower's exquisite taste in selecting her baby girl's present.
Glodean White and her sister Linda James were born in Long Beach, but they grew up in San Pedro, California. The sisters honed their vocal skills by singing in the church choir. They met Buffalo, New York native Diane Taylor in their school choir. The trio formed the Croonettes in the early 1960's. The Croonettes met Barry White at a recording session that he was producing for Andrea Sprewell. Impressed by their talent, Barry White became their manager and producer, working with them an entire year before changing their name to Love Unlimited before getting them a deal at Uni Records.
Barry and Glodean White recorded a duet album together titled "Barry & Glodean," which included two charting singles "Didn't We Make It Happen, Baby," and "I Want You." Yet even with the success of the Love Unlimited album, led by Glodean White's soaring vocals, and Love Unlimited's album "From A Girl's Point Of View," which was a million-seller, and the single "Walkin' In The Rain With The One I Love," that rose on the Billboard Chart, and many other Love Unlimited albums, Glodean White's career is still defined by her husband, Barry White's career which took him from the ghetto to the international world stage with 106 Gold and 41 Platinum albums, 20 Gold and 10 Platinum singles withworld sales in excess of 100 million and climbing.
