This is the true story of Mr Sid Rudich who survived a mob hit in October 1987.

My name is Sid Rudich. I am one of only two people to ever survive a sanctioned mob hit. On October 25, 1987 at 6:18 pm PST, an undercover from the Vegas  Metro Intelligence – Division of Organized Crime knocked on my door. But – there was a slight problem.  I had no solid proof that this dude was a freaken’ cop. I was double packing that evening.  Rumors were flying around Henderson and the Strip that there was a hit out on a small casino owner. (My Silver Spur was a small casino.)   Assuming the marked victim might be me, I had a mini arsenal in my house. Let me tell “ya” that whoever it was knocking on my door, I was ready in one pull of the trigger to spill his brains right there on the spot. . A few days prior to this stranger’s visit, I had heard though the grapevine that some  lying canary from another small casino had placed a nasty, fabricated bug in the ears of the old Chicago “Outfit,” now in Vegas, The Hole in the Wall Gang.  The lying rat told the “progeny “of Tough Tony Spilotro aka Tony Pissant that a casino owner had skimmed one million dollars of “their” money from the casino.  Therefore, If this guy at my door  was a hit man, he was going down. Not me !  I opened my door a few inches only:

“Who the Hell are you?” I screamed.

“Metro Intelligence, Mr Rudich. I need you to come with me now. Right now”

He flashed his badge.  (I almost thought he was going for a gun; that would have been “THE END”  for this interloper.)  The shitty badge looked like it had been bought in Woolworths for 50 cents, and that is exactly what I told the arrogant asshole:

“Know what – Lieutenant - I don’t trust you.  Hold up that embarrassing piece of tin ; I want your badge number. I am calling Metro to verify your status. Do not move from where you are.”

I dialed 610 9000.  Yup, our boy was an undercover.  Lieutenant Matt Mahony -
