My Latest Submission To 'The Great Animal Rescue Chase'
I constructed a large outdoor dog kennel in my backyard nearly four years ago now, to temporarily house my rescued feral dog Shadow. I even slept in this new outdoor kennel with Shadow for a month, before he finally began trusting me – he had lived his entire life out on the mean city streets - trusting no one. Today, he is one very happy and very loyal dog.
And for some reason, after Shadow moved out of his outdoor dog kennel into our house, several homeless feral cats began taking up residence in it during the last four years.
First, there was a bonded pair – Casey and Catrina – who I soon trapped and had spayed and neutered, before they began having kittens in the kennel. Someone had hideously hacked off poor Casey’s tail, and he and Catrina have also now moved inside the house.
Then, Momma Socks showed up in the outdoor kennel, after I had rescued her three kittens from the abysmal July 4th fireworks around here. Her three tiny fireworks terrified kittens had been racing all over the neighborhood before I was able to round them up. And after I did, I put them in Shadow’s old outdoor kennel for safekeeping; and before very long at all, their mother Momma Socks somehow found them in it. Her three kittens eventually went to a cat rescue organization, and the now spayed Momma Socks now lives with us as well.
And unbelievably, just last week, good old Highway, one of my rescued dogs who always likes to sniff around the outdoor kennel, found four truly adorable newborn kittens hiding under the straw bedding in Shadow’s old doghouse in the kennel. Highway was extremely excited by his latest discovery, and I think that he wanted to adopt these four homeless kittens himself – he’s quite a dog.
My spouse and I were hoping that their mother would eventually return, but in the meantime, we have been hand feeding these four truly adorable newborns, who are probably about 5 or 6 weeks old.
Yesterday, we made arrangements with a cat rescue organization to take in these four adorable newborns, and all four are now residing at a temporary foster home until they are old enough to be adopted out.
Build It, and The Homeless Street Orphans Will Keep Coming It Seems. The Plight of America’s Homeless Pets Sadly Never Ends, and Spring is Very Sadly Kitten Season. America’s Animal Shelters Will Soon Be Overflowing With Homeless Kittens; Please Consider Adopting One Yourself.

The latest flooding here in Houston has displaced a lot of critters. A buffalo was rescued yesterday, as well as a baby tiger (quite friendly) running the streets. Several longhorns surrounded a soggy large hay bale in the middle of a large lake of flooding with no high ground anywhere. This morning a 6 foot alligator was pulled from a family pool. While many families were being rescued from their apartments in Greenespoint. Many were carrying dogs in waist deep water. Fortunately, Red Cross shelters were accepting pets of all sizes and kinds.
