“Emerald Cove”
Daydreaming about the weekend
Spending time at the cabin
On Emerald Cove
The picture is clear in my mind
Lake water as smooth as glass
Stocked full of catfish
My Grandfather used to feed them
Every day at sunrise and sunset
Just as his father had done
I used to stay there during summer break
My Grandparents taught me many things
How to fish, hunt, and live off the land
The cabin has been in my family
For over a century
Each generation carrying on the tradition
Now the cabin belongs to me
My son just turned one
This Father’s Day weekend
Seems like the perfect time to begin
Teaching him about Emerald Cove
In addition, the history it holds
At first, I will tell him stories
When we go out on the boat to feed
The catfish before breakfast and after dinner
We will catch fireflies in mason jars at sundown
While the crickets, sing us lullabies
Under a canopy of the stars
In the moonlight that glistens on the lake
As the trees sway in the early summer breeze~
