     A caterpillar's wish
THE LITTLE CATERPILLAR

Once there was a caterpillar who lived in the country. He had a family who lived with him. This caterpillar crawled every where he went. One day when the sun was bright and the flowers bloomed, he went on a long journey to see the world. He came upon a turtle who was walking slowly down the road.
Big cars and trucks drove by almost running over the caterpillar.

"My goodness," said the caterpillar to the turtle, aren't you worried that you may get run over ?"

"Oh, yes, but there's nothing I can do . I can't run, or fly,and it's in a turtle's nature to stroll down country roads.

"Well," replied the caterpillar, "I wish I could fly or jump, or something, so I could get out of the way."

"Well, just remember what YOU are. You, my friend are a caterpillar. You are what you are. You cannot change."

The turtle moved on across the road and towards a water pond to get a drink.
The sad little caterpillar went through the field of wheat and to the other side. Of course it took a very long time.

On the other side was a farm where alot of activity was going on. Little caterpillar saw a dog, who barked loudly and ran very fast . He saw a cat who could climb up the mighty oak tree. He crawled on until he found himself in a hollowed out tree, which was very dark inside. On and on he went, trying to get out. Finally he reached the end.

"I can see light again!" he said.On and on he went.
"I am so tired of being me!" he cried as he he sat on a pile of leaves.

"Why are you crying, little caterpillar?" asked a beautiful robin.I am sad because I can't fly."

The little bird, replied, I do hope you get your wings, little friend. Then he flew away.
The little caterpillar was very tired. He crawled upon a nice soft leaf that was moist with dew. He was so tired that he fell asleep.
Morning came and the sun shown down brightly on the caterpillar.

"Oh, how warm the sun feels. "he said as he woke up.
"I am soooooo hungry!" he thought as he looked around for the perfect leaf to munch on. He began to eat the leaves to fill his belly. He remembered the bird and wished he could fly. Then he remembered what the turtle had said, "You'll never change."

So the caterpillar began to lose hope, for in the state that he was in, he would always be little and in some danger. All kind of animals could eat him, humans could step on him. It just wasn't fair.

The little caterpillar sat sadly watching a beautiful butterfly dancing all around.
The butterfly looked down on him in his sadness then said,
"Someday, you too will dance on the sky and drink sweet nectar from the flowers," Then she flew off, leaving the catarpillar to think of what she'd said.

Days went by, and the catarpillar started to wrap himself in a cocoon. He didn't know why, but it was in his nature to do it, so he did. Then he slept for a long time. Then one day, he emerged from his cocoon, with a whole new look. He looked like a butterfly. He was very confused but very happy too.

"Is this really me ?" he thought as he tried to fly.
"It is me! " he said, as he flew way above the dogs and cats and onto a beautiful flower, where he drank the sweet nectar.

Just then the same butterfly came by and said,
"I told you someday you would fly too,"
Then they both flew off together to explore the beautiful countryside .
Once a caterpillar, and now a beautiful butterfly with wings," he thought to himself.
"I know now that it was in my nature to change."
