I still remember Susie calling the house, Susie, that's daddys brothers daughter, she still calls momma aunt libby all those years after the divorce.....tears filling her brown eyes, " aunt libby uncle Luke's dead." Susie was nearly inconsolable, daddy and uncle crum ( or elvyn) were near inseparable for so many years. Momma said " hon calm down, tell me what happened" ..." uncle Luke had lung cancer. We begged and pleaded with him to quit smoking. Aunt libby I'm so sorry. " Susie cried " no sweetheart you did the right thing. I appreciciate your call." And mom had to tell me this after I had just wished him happy new year across the web. I had to go back with THIS tragic news.
Fortunately I had a good support system. And I still see one of daddys old friends from the old country ( Collins Georgia) once in a while. We had a chat, and we was all straight on some issues, and some bad ones, between daddy and me, everything's all right papa. Happy 80th birthday in Heaven. See you soon
