This story is about an orphan boy who finally finds a family.
The sun was shining brightly on the old red brick three story building which was the Figgins’ Orphanage. With it lush green lawns and flower gardens and was in the country, about three miles outside of the small town of Wigglesworth.
The gardeners and housekeepers were all busy as bees, for today was Visitor’s Day, which was always the second Saturday of the month. The tables were set up in the flower gardens for the refreshments to be served to the prospective parents that may come today.
Teddy had jumped out of bed and went to his knees to pray” Please God let today be my lucky day?” Teddy was an eight-year-old boy with platinum blonde hair and ocean blue eyes. Teddy had been saying the same prayer since he was old enough to pray. Teddy had lost both his parents when the horse and buggy they were riding in was spooked by a horseless carriage. Teddy still had the limp and the scar on his face caused by the accident.
Teddy would stand in line with the other orphans who were dressed in their best attire. Last month Teddy watched as Big Joe who was a tall strapping boy of 17 who was adopted last month. Big Joe had finally received his lucky day.
Teddy watched as the baby Jessica got her new parents, a young couple who were unable to have a baby of their own. Next came the Johnston twins, Anna and Abby, they were taken by an older couple Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the girls were to be helpers for Mrs. Smith who was the seamstress of the town, and since the girls were 13, they were just about the right age to be trained as seamstresses. Mrs. Smith also loved the twins and wanted both so the girls would not be separated.
Teddy watched a couple headed his way, they were young about 24 or 25 years of age. They had blonde hair and blue eyes just like he did. Teddy thought “they won’t want me because I am not perfect, with my scar and limp”. He felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up and saw the two smiling faces of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, and then he heard the words” Would you like to come and live with us, Teddy”? Teddy smiled and looked up and said in a whisper” Thank you God for my lucky day” as he happily walked hand in hand with his new mom and dad, Teddy Thompson, he likes his new name.
