This is the ending to my story regarding the parole hearing for my son's killer.
If you have read any of my stories in the past regarding the young man that murdered my son, then you are aware that he was up for parole after spending 20 years incarcerated for that crime. After finally making the decision not to interfere with his parole (as I had attempted to do in the past), his parole was granted and he was released this week.
I knew this would happen one day but I could never have prepared myself for him being released and I am not ready!! But then how could I have made myself ready? Ready for what? Ready to greet him when I pass him on the street? Ready to engage him in conversation? Ready to invite him over for coffee? Ready to do him bodily harm or ready to forgive him?
Well none of the above will probably ever happen, so this is something I will just have to live with for the rest of my life and I continue to pray that the Lord will order my steps and direct my path; away from him!
Losing a child has to be one of the most difficult things a parent can endure. My heart goes out for you. I will pray you are able to forgive this man. I carried hate in my heart for several years and it ate me up. Only by forgiving this man did I find peace in my heart. We never reconciled but I stopped hating him. Please for your own well being, please forgive him, not for his benefit, but for yours. As for meeting him, let God handle the encounter.
