The Bonnaroo Chronicles THE PRINCESS OF CHAOS AT BONNAROO
THE PRINCESS OF CHAOS AT BONNAROO
Never fear, the Princess of Chaos was alive and well for Bonnaroo. She was not invited, in fact, I forbid her to come along. She came anyway. As we set out for our trip, I got my finger slammed in the cooler (OUCH) and managed to 'misplace' the keys to the rental car. I was sure that I had put them in my pocket as we loaded the car from our Target stop. I know you will find this hard to believe, but I am not normally a 'key loser.' I was also being incredibly careful, because for some reason the rental car company feels that providing only one key to renters, and NOT having a spare themselves, is a good policy. Matt & I spent 15 minutes looking for them, unloading everything we had just placed in the trunk. I found them tucked into the waistband of my pants.
We took only one wrong turn on the way, pretty damn good for the two most directionally impaired individuals in the family!!
On Thursday, I wandered away from the campsite to use the beloved Port-A-Potty, and on my way back, tripped over a tent cable, injuring the back of my left calf. Then, on another of my trips around the grounds, I stepped in a hole, twisting and cutting my right ankle, a minor cut, but it hurt nevertheless. 'Just call me Grace.' Needless to say, I started Friday out in bad shape!!!
And, I got incredibly lost Friday night after Dave --- 2 or 3 hours of wandering around lost. I was literally on the verge of tears -- this does not happen to me often. I slept in really late and didn't head back to Centeroo on Saturday until 3:00! Enough said, I don't really want to relive that part -- it was the only bad part about Bonnaroo.
After setting up camp, Matt met up with a friend from Ohio, wandered around Centeroo all night, got a little 'disoriented,' and couldn't find his way back to camp. Because it was so hot, he took his shirt off. Matt is probably one of the few people on the planet who is more pale than I am. The sun dislikes us. After several hours of wandering around the farm, he was, to put it mildly - sunburned. He could not contact me because my cell wouldn't work at Bonnaroo. He spent hours passed out on a cot, at the American Red Cross tent, slathered in Aloe Vera, and MISSED the Allman Brothers. Silly, silly Matt. He was rather bummed about that. Throughout the ride home, he would shake his head and say, 'I can't believe I missed the Allman Brothers,' or 'All those girls!!'. He was in too much pain to do any dancing with or charming of the girls. Poor thing. I would say that I infected Matt, but I believe he carries his own brand of chaos.
I arrived back in Birmingham with feet so swollen, I could have passed for one of the Flinstones. By Monday, the swelling, but not the aches, had lessened, so that was good. But I had developed a rash on my forearms and left calf. It was getting really itchy. I've been slathered in Calomine lotion since I arrived home. Oh, and I caught a cold.
My cell phone died, and I was unable to charge it. I took it to the Cingular store --- time wasted that I did not have as I was trying to catch a flight out of Birmingham. The problem --- there were teeny-tiny crumbs in the 'charger,' compliments of my cuz and the munchies -- his, not mine. :o) I almost missed my flight home, thinking it was departing at 6:52....nope, 5:30. I had to pack my suitcase at the gas station while I filled the tank on the rental before returning it.
The Princess tried to rear her ugly head a few times, but in light of all the excitement surrounding Bonnaroo, her attempts were futile!!
Would I do it all again? OH YEAH!!!!!!
