I wrote this while taking a class in Creative Writing. In it I try to explain the life of a person from birth to natural death.

                     A  DANCE  WITH  DEATH

We dance with death each day. It is just life's way.
It is the reason a baby cries because  he dies at birth.
He now enters a new world as he is flung from his mother's womb. He is slapped on his behind and he thinks the world
is cruel. He must now follow the rule.

He is washed and dressed and he is no longer free. Why
didn't they let me be? His food supply was always ready. Now, he must be fed by mother's breast. He does not like this at first. It  is too much like work. He can no longer swim and play as he joins a world of night and day.

Shortly, new life begins. The old life has ended. He soon grows in size and understanding. He recognizes mom and dad, love and care. He has to learn to be patient as he
now must wait for some one to feed and change him and he now must take a bath. His days of learning is hard and rash as it is, don't do that or this thing. Why must he always obey?
Could he not be free again? These are tough days as he learns what pleases and displeases. So he obeys and forgives as best he can.

Now he must go to school. It is hard to leave from this safe place. He must make new friends of strangers. He must learn who he can trust. He must obey a new teacher. How hard life can be?

Now he is a young man. He is a teen ager. He learns about his body. It is changing. He learns about God, his creator.
He learns that girls are nice and he takes a new interest in them. So much to learn for one so young. He tries to take it in stride. He must learn more responsibility and this is hard.

He has more people to please. His peers as well as his parents and teachers. And now he must obey the law. Oh boy!, these are tough days. He suffers, mom and dad do too.
Will he make it thru till aldulthood .It is a dance with death.

Now, he has finished high school. He will go for more education to prepare for life in an adult world. This is hard. Sometimes he fails, picks himself up and starts again. At last his education is complete. He must go to work. He falls in love and marries. He must learn to live in a more intimate way with a woman, who is like himself but yet very different.
A woman thinks and feels..She is sweet and affectionate.
She does not like to ruff-house like a man. She does not always say what she wants and feels. She cries a lot and makes him feel unconfortable. He doesn't understand but he decides he must try to please her. Just love her, you say. Oh Boy! this is hard but I must try.

Soon the children come, one, two and more.Mom's very busy these days. Time is divided. Mom is more mother now than wife. So must help at home. Work harder to make ends meet. There is food, clothing, lodging, doctor bills, drugs, school bills, recreation and more. Life goes on. Time and patience of utmost importance. Busy, busy, busy is the logo.

Now they are grown and leave the nest, one by one they go.So sad to see them go and yet so glad. Did I do a good job. Oh well! the best I could. Some regrets I guess. The children must start their own lives now.It is the way of the world. Things are changing .bigger houses, cars, airplanes, computers and much, much more. There are wars and rumors of war.Troubles goes on but life is good and dear.

Now, I am an old man. Cannot do for others anymore.
God is good. He provides. There are many losses and deaths.
But with faith in God, I can make it thru. A better life awaits me on the other side.

This is a dance with death in order to prepare for a better one, Eternal Life, where there is no more tears, pain and suffering and there will be no more struggle only love, peace and harmony.

Well said. You might add that as an old man, there will be regrets. Memories of failures I could have avoided if only I had the knowledge as a youth. My brother-in-law has a favorite saying:
"Life sucks, then you die." I believe that life is a constant growing just like you wrote. When I have grown enough God will embrace me.
God Bless,
Lew

Very interesting write and I am sure your professor must have been intrigued by this perspective and deep look at life and living or should I say life and dying. Well done.
