As The Deer Pants – Dig #4
The Messiah’s Birth Foretold

And so Richard the Gallant arrives in a cloud of dust
Upon his trusted camel aptly named, Steed
“Good news know I about the names
of Him you ponder,” says he.
For unto us a child is born
Unto us a Son is given…and His name shall be called
Wonder, Counsellor, The mighty God,
The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace…
“Yes, we read that in Isaiah 9 verse 6,” says Joselyn.
“But did you know that Immanuel means God with us, and Jesus, well…”
Richard unrolls his scroll and reads from Luke 1 verses 32 and 33.
He shall be great, and shall be called
The son of the Highest;
And the Lord God shall give unto Him
The throne of his father David;
And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever,
And of His kingdom there shall be no end…
And so the Diggers ponder these amazing words
About the babe to be born in the City of David
Their hearts are filled with unexplained joy
Each Digger becomes more excited
Wondering what they will next encounter
On their Theological dig!
As they continue on their camel journey
Deeply engrossed in their thoughts
They are totally unaware that
They have been joined by another
She is Constance of Late-Joiner
Who for now prefers to be a
A silent observer on this
Amazing epic Theological dig!
Suddenly, as if an angel of the Lord
Had lifted the Diggers in one swift sweep
They find themselves perched on the edge of a hillside
Overlooking an ancient city abuzz with activity!
“It is as it should be,” says Kimmy, reading from Luke 2.
And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree
from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed
And all went to be taxed, everyone into his own city…
“Do you guys feel as I do?” asks Lew. “I feel as if we’re
about to experience…no, it’s as if we’re in the presence
of God himself. Listen to what it says in verse 4 of Luke 2.”
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth,
Into Judaea, unto the City of David, which is called Bethlehem…
“To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife,
being great with child,” adds Joyce.
“And there they are…Mary and Joseph,” says Kimmy, pointing.
“Guys,” says Victor, “This is indeed a blessed moment.
We are here as observers in a time that was.
It’s like we’re in a vision…or something.”
“Listen to what it says here in verse 6,” says CJ.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were
Accomplished that she should be delivered…
Awesome! thinks Andy, his eyes as wide as saucers!
The Theological dig grows rich and exciting, my friends
Hope more of you will join us on Dig #5!
