A poem to my father who recently passed away. I have two published books, one is a book of spiritual poems. This recent poem is not included in that book, but it does give the reader a taste of what those poems are like. The book is called Plates of Gold and Other Spiritual Poems.
Looking out on mountains I adore
As through the sky gently I do soar
Into Phoenix, the city, not the bird
I decide to write my Dad a lasting word
Of thanks, joy and adulation
Hearing all the words of adoration
I realize that as a man was he
The type of man that I wish to be
Realizing though it's far too late
Since one day past is when he met his fate
That if but last wish I could impart
To my dad, my love and my heart
In thankfulness to him so grateful am I
He taught me while young to always try
To treat others with respect and love
and to believe in a God above
By his example I could always know
Fairness to all is what he did always show
He laughed, joked and a funny pun
Would slip from his mouth, off his tongue
His wit was sharp, his mind was too
Now to him I must bid adieu
Those all gathered bring honor to his name
My only wish that I can do the same
So to him this earthly song I sing
Thanks Father for everything.
