My grand parents raised me and they did things with me often. This is one of the things We did, fish.
I think I will talk about a fishing trip I went on with my Pop when I was about nine years old. I do love to fish. It relaxes you a lot. You get all dirty and sweaty, too much sun and it's just a heck of a lot of fun. I had been after my Pop to take me fishing for a while. It was not fair that the men and boys got to go and us girls couldn't go. I was a regular little tom boy as a child. Anyway, my grandparents decided one morning that we were going fishing and taking a picnic lunch with us. My pop said come on, we have to dig up some worms. Worms are something I really didn't like, looks like a baby snake to me. Eweeee. Why worms, Pop? Thats what we are fishing with, why are you scared of them? Now my Pop knew me like a book, he knew I hated them. But I knew this was a test to see how bad I wanted to go fishing, so I said, well let's go. We dugged up a jar full of worms, and I have to say, it took all I had in me to be brave enough to pick the darn things up! So we went back to the house and my grandpa said, let's pack up and go. On the way there, my grandmother told me what to do and what not to do and she said, you do know we most likely will see a snake. I was being brave that day, I said, no way, this is a good fishing trip, we will not see one today. We get to the spot on the river that my Pop says, is the best spot to catch fish. My dad and brother and a few others are already there. We set down on the bank and my Pop said, now we put a worm on the hook. I must have had a funny look on my face because my Pop said, whats the matter? I said nothing because, heck, I had already master picking them up earlier that morning, so I get one out and put it on my pole, no rod and reels back then, for us. I must have sit there for an hour, no nibble or nothing. My Pop already caught five.I am beginning to get very tired of fishing.I could hear my brother and cousins playing in the back ground, sounded like more fun than fishing. All of a sudden my float went under water. I had a bite! My Pop said when it takes off, pull it up and out of the water. He got away. A few minutes later, I told my Pop, I have a fish, he said why do you think that, I said, cause I see his feathers.Well dang, why are all of yall laughing. My Pop said, fish do not have feathers. Now my brother and cousins are picking on me bad so I get mad. I told my Pop that I had to go to get something to drink.I was walking along the path and came to a little creek and I had just got across and decided to sit down and put my feet in the water and my dad and brother was screaming at me to get my feet out of the water! I looked in the water and there are about four snakes coming at me! Oh my, you talking about freezing up, I sure did. I could not move. My dad made it to me and grabbed me out of the water just in a nick of time. One of the snakes did not stop, he came out of the water and my dad had to beat it with a stick. We went around the other way where the creek bed ended and walked the bank back to the others. My Pop had a fit. He said, they are way too many snakes out today, and that he had seen a few in the water close to where he was. We packed up everything and went back home.We had our picnic lunch on the table outside of our house. My dad and the rest of the guys stayed and they caught a lot of fish and killed a few snakes. This was my first fishing trip. BY TERESA JUNE 2006.....COPYRIGHT
