Author-songwriter Laraine Elizabeth Turner humbly shares her experience while serving in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. "While in the reserves, I was editor of the Drill Sergeant, for which I'm very proud. My captain assigned the position. When I was in basic training, I was nicknamed Carol Burnett. Then in Advanced Training, I was dubbed Lady Laraine while performing in a talent show doing a jazz number to Barry Manilow's 'Chicago.' My instructor asked me to perform in the army graduation, which I'm also very proud of."
Turner displays a publicity photo of her as "Lady Laraine" during that very memorable time. She also adds, "I didn't know really where I was going with the dancing. I just knew I enjoyed it and wanted to be wholesome family-type entertainer. I wanted to 'let my light shine' as a Christian, and show that Christians should be creative and expressive--and can also be anointed!"
