A POTATO STORY IN B minor

I was once a potato.Oh! what am I banging on about ,I am still a potato.I am going to tell you about my potato life. When I was small,my father and mother called me a sweet potato. My teachers they called me a bad potato. And all my friends they called me a cool potato. But, the only thing I knew about myself was that I am just a little potato.
In my memory I have a picture of that day, when one of our school teacher drew a big potato on my friend’s head.I felt very sad and angry about it.Infact everyone in the classroom found that to be pretty cruel.’You don’t even can remember, what I just taught you all in the class, you are a dumb potato!’saying this the teacher managed to make a hell of a potato out of my friend.Tears rolling down from his cotton clean eyes,my friend cried and cried.I was sit ting close to him,so I took an effort to console him.’Hey my friend! Please don’t cry,it is all going to be ok’.What ever the people say,let them say, because we know in our little heart that what ever they say we are, we are not.We all know we are all very good potatoes, allright.’Whether they boils us,peels us,slices us or mashes us,it is all the same,we still are good potatoes. After a n year or so ,I left that school.I grew to believe that I was too much of a potato for this kind of school.Maybe it was founded to bring up everyone other than us potatoes.Anyway soon after I left the school,I took myself to the Potato kingdom, from where my big journey began.
Growing up as a potato was simple,I was always kind of buried.Buried underneath the warmth and the darkness of the mother earth.Sun will come out to play, moon will come out to play and the stars will sing and dance in the night. But I a silly potato helplessly buried not being able to embrace all these nature’s grace. So,I pushed and pushed myself hard to come out and meet my dear life.My life as a potato.I had many things to do in life,I had a lot to see around above all that I had many many beautiful dreams. Thus I managed to push my potato body out into the open world and live the joy of a potato.
Once a very stormy night,a very angry man threw me out into the street. The angry man blamed me for all his intolerable grief.’If it wasn’t you,you know,I would be much much happier, you have jinxed my fate big time and made my life very miserable. His face was covered in dust, his clothes black and greasy looked as though permanently pasted over his lean body. His normal temperament was always calm and sweet.Poverty had shown him a different reality.Inspite of daily struggles for bread,he was atleast happy. It was only the poverty of mere bread.Things started to fall off the hook ,when his poverty of bread moved to his head. Since then ,I can certainly tell that he did change a great deal .His anger, impatience and indolence sucked him like a quicksand into the ghostly aspects of his being. The same man,who not only respected me,but also used to possess a smile full of innocence and joy infront of which even a king would have looked very glum.Since that stormy evening I have not seen him.
I have fond memories of our potato convention which was held in our country. The great country of Potatosthan.I am saying this because it was really a very , very special event.Potatoes from all over the world met, discussed, and shared their stories and views. There was a sack of potatoes ,who claimed that they always got mixed up with other strange looking vegetables like carrots, cauliflowers and broccli with their weird sense of hairstyles and tastes for that matter. They went on to explain, how they were buttered ,peppered, salted and what not..And they also added with a childish giggle how they felt so privileged to be pampered. that way. Some of the potatoes spoke in great details on how they got mashed and hashed.,and how they really enjoyed the company of the famous animal flesh. Some talked about how they got thrown into a pool of hot oil and fried till their skin almost went brown. At first they thought wow! a swimming pool time for us?But then they soon realized about their fried up karma when it actually started to burn them deep.Nevertheless they truly enjoyed when they were spluttered with tomato ketchup and mayonnaise in the end. What they did not like they said was the vineger and salt on their burning skin. Some potatoes told their rich tales about meeting some very famous people from the kings and queens ,the Pope, the Dalai Lama ,
Pam ela Anderson to Salman Rushdie.’Rich and famous do not relish us that well’ they said. And they hate it when they are flooded with bubbly instead of plain water. They felt very royal when they met the kings and the queens, they felt spiritual and compassionate when they met with the Pope and the Dalai Lama..They felt baywatched and horny when they met Pamela Anderson and they felt they knew the Satanic Verses by heart when they met Salman Rushdie. Another sack of potato was sitting by the corner smoking hookah and listening to all this.It had not said a single word nor participated fully in all the potato discussions.A cloud of smokes from the hookah covered their faces have they been visible one could have easily seen the sadness all around their big sloopy nose.Pool of tears hanging behind their cold pale eyes.’We are long been trying our best to feed the hungry and needy of this world’the smoking sack of potatoes said.’We have seen the starving lot eating us pinch by pinch and we have felt it in their bowels the pain of their struggles.’ ‘So all you good for nothing potatoes come and join in our crusade and leave your Hollywood hill’s dream s an d move your potato butt to make this world a hunger free reality.’The other potatoes were completely taken by what was just said and raised their hands and shouted on top of their potato voice,’we all are with you brother,so tell us what we need to do now,to make this dream come true ?’The smoking potato was some what surprised by this thunderous reaction. The n it shouted back to the potato crowd ,now on all you got to do is just make yourself possible for growth in the porverty stricken area of the world. If you managed to do this with your whole unselfish heart then the hungry people can actually use their hands and knees to deal with their starvation. They will work and make their life much better and more tolerable than what it is now.’Yes! we will work on that!’In this manner the convenction ended.
This meeting s with other potatoes have definitely widen my thoughts and aspirations.I feel for the first time how I have the potential to change what can be changed and be of great help for the ones who now are living in hell of torturing hunger.

Profile of a Murder by Roger Vizi

When I wrote ths book in 2000, I was concerned about children having access to the Internet and to chat rooms where "you can be anyone you want." Here we are many years later and the situation with children talking freely to stangers on the Internet
