~ Ladies Of The Night ~
-----------------------

Mark:
A man filled with such
hatred and rage towards
the ladies of the night...
After years of living with
his bitter memory,
of his mother being a prostitute....

The sickened memories of his
mother bringing different
men home every night,
Introducing them to Mark
"as his new uncle" "whoever."

Oh how the stench of alcohol
filled the home,
The laughter coming from his mother's bedroom.
As Mark would stand by the
door and listen, with tears
streaming down his face..
Completely drove him over
the edge of madness.
Soon his hatred and rage
would erupt like a rushing
volcano.

------------------------

Annette:
A lady of the night...
Never did she realize
what she was about to encounter...
When she would come face
to face with this raging
madman.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Annette felt compelled
to make her living on
the streets...
She did whatever it took,
to provide for her four
small children.
Annette was uneducated
with no special skills
or training.
One night Annette began
to reflect on her lifestyle.
She felt as tho' she had
sold her soul to satan.
Feeling so cheap and dirty,
the guilt began to totally
consume her...
She made a vow, that one
day she would stop selling
herself..
Annette felt that she had
to restore her self-respect.
While working the streets
on one cold bitter night.
Mark pulled up to the corner
where there he saw Annette
standing.
As she approached him,
He flashed a badge at her
posing as a cop.
Mark forced Annette into
his car.
When suddenly, He began to
brutally beat her.
Mark drove to a very dark
remote area.
Where he continued to beat
her.
He proceeded to pull her
out from the car,
Dragging her into a deeply
wooded area.
Annette could do nothing,
but to think of her children.
For she knew that she was
going to die.
Mark forced Annette to
get down on her knees,
pointing a gun to her head.
"Annette sobbed and begged
for mercy."
Mark laughed at her,
as he pulled the trigger
shooting her twice in
the head.
Annette fell to the ground,
Laying there in a pool of
her own blood.
She felt herself quickly
drifting away.
Mark placed her bloodied
body into a shallow grave.
Laughing, as he got back
into his car and sped off.
Mark did not make it
very far,
Before he noticed a
squad car behind him...
The police pulled him pull
over. Out of all thing's,
"for a broken tail light."
As they were questing him,
they noticed blood all
over his shirt.
The police ordered him out
of the car.
Instructing him lay flat
on the ground.
The police proceeded to
search the car..
Whereas, they came upon
the phony police badge.
Mark knew that his life
was now forever doomed.
Suddenlty, in the cold
silence of the night,
there was a loud gun shot.
The police turned to Mark,
when they discovered,
that he had somehow freed
himself from the handcuffs,
and shot himself in the head.
As for Annette...
She managed to dig herself
out of the shallow grave...
All covered with blood,
she managed to make her
way to the main road...
It was a blessing that
the police noticed her
immediately.
Much to their amazement
she was still alive..
However,
Annette did suffer severe
brain damage,
as well as the loss of her
eyesight.
Eventually, Annette went
totally insane.
All because of one dreadful night.
She now remains silently
in a padded room.
With no memory of her chilren,
family or friends.
The doctor's stated that
"Annette will never recover."
As for her children,
They reside with the grandparent's.
As they all try to make
some sense out of this
horrific tragedy...
Trixie -
You have woven an eerie and dark story.
It is filled with imagery, anticipation and drama. It leaves this reader with a gloomy uneasiness.
Gosh honey, what a gripping story! Tragedy on all sides. No one in this plot came out a winner. Life is like this sometimes, bitter and cold and violent. Events and circumstances made this happen. Events in both their lives moved them on this path of violence and destruction. I love you so.
Excellent piece of work. I didn't realize I was holding my breath until I had finished reading the story.
Very nice, though it reads more like a synopsis for a story than a story itself. The insight into the motivations and the character descriptions are excellent.
Really well thought out story. I like the way you showed each persons feeling and how they came to the spot that they are in and the part that they take in this drama I too would like to see this story expanded. Good write.
This is so powerfully written and the tragic story is so compelling. I'm just sorry it took me so long to come over to read your short stories section!
This is good, as a student of the genre and able to write the genre as well this is a good read. Chicago and the collar counties produce a lot of horror writers -- and this is a good burnt offering.
A tragic story in both lives. If only Marks mother had more self repect and concern for her child as Annette did for her children. How circumstances can change peoples lives, how a moment in time could change our own in an instant. Life can be cruel at times.
You have a Poe quality about you, keep up the great work.
-Think I wouldn't mind seeing this stretched out a bit (That being a compliment in it's self)- a gut-wrencher noentheless. Think the straight-forwards unflinching way it is told works well with it though.
