This story is about how God used incredible circumstances to bring a backslidden trucker into fellowship with Him. The adventure involves how God caused a broken air conditioner to start working during hot weather, which saved a trucker headed for hell and had already been given up on by others.
My name is Dr. Jerry W. Hulse, and I am licensed as an International Evangelist with Miracle Life Church International. Apostle Don Stewart and Bishop Ping Alba personally mentored me.
In my over (43) years as an over-the-road professional driver and mechanic in the trucking industry, I have had many supernatural encounters with the living God, which would make one rethink the law of physics.
I am sharing one of those encounters with you in this story. I have experienced many manifestations of the Holy Spirit while driving.
In 1995, I returned to ministry after a more than seven-year nervous breakdown, taking the CB radio call sign “The Guardian Angel.”
I used this call sign, or we call it “handle” in trucker language, because while in this nightmare that seemed there was no end to where I would wake up with my fingers drawn up like someone with severe arthritis, the Lord sent Angels to me just like the TV series “Touched By An Angel.”
Yes, these would be messengers from God who identified themselves to me as being sent by the “Lord God Jehovah,” they used his name with Holy reverence while speaking to me.
Beloved, when I made a comeback in ministry, God opened doors for me in radio and TV, and did you know that he would do creative miracles through my programs without me knowing it? This reaction caused the stations to be flooded with calls and letters.
I never used my real name in any of my programs, outreaches or magazine articles written about me, for my thought was, “If God thinks that much of me to allow me to meet Angels on several occasions, significantly when I believed death would be a gift to me through all the heartache, rejection and mistreatment I had to endure since a young teen, I would use the name, “Guardian Angel in everything I undertake to do in his ministry, and that is why that I feel led to share this true story of how God chose to use me to win a young driver to the Lord in such a way that many people were left shaking their4 heads and rethinking their relationship with God.
The story goes like this: My large truck had broken down in Rochester, New York, and the company instructed me to leave my vehicle there and ride back to Tennessee with two other drivers. We took turns driving each of their trucks back to our terminal. One of the drivers did not know Jesus' name except to use it as a curse word, while the other driver was a Christian who had been hurt so severely that he had turned his back on Jesus.
We stopped to fuel at a truck stop, and I remember asking the wayward Christian, "What will God have to do, have a big truck pull up with a sign telling you Jesus loves you?"
The driver tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to a tractor-trailer passing behind me with words painted on the side. The other driver was uninterested in anything I had to say about God.
While I was driving his truck, the young man would curse like a sailor, even using God's name in vain. I finally told him that although it was his truck I was driving, my God had been too good to me, and if he were going to keep using his name with profanity, I would demand equal time to bless him.
I continued to witness him during the trip, and the following summer, our paths crossed again at a customer in Mobil, Alabama.
He said, “Preacher, you may not have thought I was listening coming down from Rochester, but those words you spoke haunt me. I can’t get them out of my head.
All the time, I hear them about being born again. I tell you what; my air conditioner has quit. (The temperature was over 100 degrees at the time. I'll be saved if your God can fix my air conditioner.”
Beloved, I had not faced such a direct challenge before, and I said, “I don’t know that He will, but I know He can! Let’s see!”
I remember laying my hand on the air conditioner ducts in his truck and saying something like, “You heard him, LORD. Almighty God, there’s a soul in the balance here.
I continued praying, “Lord, I know some preachers say that you can’t enter into mechanical operations, but I believe you are all-powerful and that you loved man so much that you let your Son suffer so we could be saved, and Lord, I am asking you just to let this air conditioner work 'till this poor lost soul gets back to Tennessee, so he too will experience the God that I know and be saved.”
Beloved, to my surprise, the A/C started to cool and worked the entire trip over six hundred miles back to our terminal in Tennessee. The Shop foreman, who knew me well, called me to come to the shop as soon as possible.
I remember making my way to the shop office, and as soon as he saw me, he asked me to follow him out into the shop, where the driver's truck was sitting for repairs.
The shop foreman knew my dad, and he knew that I had rebuilt engines for him in the big trucks in my teen years.
This shop foreman needed help understanding how this A/C had worked, much less from Mobil, Alabama, to Kingsport, Tennessee. He showed me that the expansion valve was terrible; it was also leaking, and there was not enough coolant to be operational.
The driver was valid to his word and received Jesus as his LORD and Savior! A lady in the safety department at work called me later to thank me for leading her future husband to the Lord.
She had been attracted to him for a long time but would not pursue the relationship because he was not a Christian.
A few months after attending a beautiful church wedding, I felt inspired by the love I witnessed between the couple and the idea of the wedding supper in heaven.
This experience reignited my faith and has helped me persevere through many disappointments since then, leading up to the start of 2024, when my wife and I will conduct weekly revivals in the Philippines.
I realized that if God could end up repairing a broken A/C to save a soul from hell, we should never give up on our loved ones or those we are interceding for.
Sometimes, God may need to fix things or cause people to move around to bring them back into fellowship with Him. So, let us trust God's plan for those around us, knowing He may use unexpected circumstances to bring about His will.
My friend, don't lose hope just because things appear bleak. Keep praying for your loved ones, no matter how dire their situation. We should understand that sometimes, people must experience the consequences of their actions before they are ready to change.
They must reach a point where they hate sin and its effects on themselves and others. It took me over seven years to overcome my mental illness, but God's grace never abandoned me.
A genuine Christian might fall into sin during a moment of weakness, but they will not revel in it or pursue it. Their nature has transformed, and they no longer engage in the things they once enjoyed.
Like the Apostle Paul, they now find themselves loving what they once hated and hating what they once loved. God's love fills their hearts, guiding their actions.
“I stand before God as my witness that everything mentioned in this story is factual and happened just as it is written. May God use it to bring hope, joy, direction, purpose, and meaning to whoever takes the time to read it."
Would you believe that I am a board-certified mental health counselor with the Association of Christian Counselors and continue to do my studies in the Philippines with Light University online in the USA?

Ngl this story hit harder than I expected. At first it feels like a normal trucking story but then it slowly turns into something way deeper.
What really got me was how real the moment felt. The driver wasn’t calm or open to faith. He was annoyed tired and basically fed up. Him straight up saying he’d believe if God fixed the A/C was such a raw challenge. No fake faith just frustration. And the prayer didn’t feel scripted either. It felt like a real last shot kind of prayer.
The fact that the A/C should not have worked at all makes it even crazier. Knowing you had real mechanical experience makes it harder to brush off. That part made me stop and think for real.
I also respected how open you were about your own struggles. The breakdown the years of pain and still choosing to show up for others. That made the story feel honest not preachy. It shows faith is messy and people are messy but God still works through that.
The ending with the driver changing his life and later getting married was honestly wholesome. It shows how one moment can change someone’s whole path. Made me think about how many people we give up on too early.
Overall this story feels genuine. It doesn’t feel forced. It just feels like something you lived through and never forgot. Definitely one of those stories that sticks with you.
Questions I had while reading
Were you nervous when he challenged you like that
Did you actually expect the A/C to work or were you just trusting God
Do you think that moment was more for him or for strengthening your own faith
Thanks for sharing this I’m glad I read it
