Finally he reached a cavernous chamber. The back walls of the chamber contained hexagonal chambers like the honeycombs of a beehive. Each chamber contained a member of the old race. They were suspended in some sort of mucus-like solution that held them in stasis, hundreds of them vertically stacked into a shaft that extended beyond Jones' vision.

A large black triangular spacecraft rested on the stone floor before the honeycombs, and in front of the spacecraft a blue-green energy field cut the chamber in two.

Jones felt agony when he realized that the barrier kept him from the old ones. He began to step forward, and noticed an obsidian triangle set into the rock on the wall.

Release us, a thousand voices cried in unison.

Racing towards the triangle, Jones tripped on something and fell forward. Someone's or something's arm was draped around his back,and he screamed silently in his helmet as ht struggled to free himself.

It was then that Jones noticed the space suits, or rather the
ghost suits, for each contained a skeleton. The suits bore the
insignia of almost every planet in the federation.
