Amazingly, I glanced through Google search engine on the Internet right there on the information superway, just a while ago, just doodling, and I happened to just type in my dad's name just by chance, Radcliffe Dennis, and I found him under a listing of electorate voters in Jamaica. He used to be very active in the political arena because his interests in the plight of his people spread far and wide. Then I came to be reflecting on Father's Day coming up this June, so I thought it appropriate to go into some detail on the life of this enigmatic man.
I guess I was the only one in the immediate family who actively shared his interests in political science, religion, philosophy and history. It was usually the audience and interest of one out of seven in the family. Who could understand it - this reverie, but me and my dad. He drew me into this mix of his affairs because I was willing to just simply listen and show some enthusiasm as the prerequisites needed in order to hear what he had to talk about; and that was all that was required to be in his school as his willing disciple. Well, now, where can I start with my story of this man who was my dad? How did I come to first recognize who he was, much less tell this story? It must have started at the time when I recognized that I was being bottle fed and given baby cereal in the evenings, or Nat King Cole songs were being played in my head to put me off to sleep. This was some five thousand miles away from the island of Jamaica, where I was later to go to high school, but for the time being, I was born in London, England.
This was an exceptional man who sacrificed much and is no longer with me but his memory is deeply embe dded in my mind as a great father. This story is to be continued. . .
