Please tell Stefany that I was really touched by her book on many levels. First, as a mom, it felt good to see another mother out there who won't normally allow her kids to spend the night, and doesn't really trust guests much either. It is weird because I am the most protective of my adopted daughter vs. my biological children. Maybe it is because her biological mother in Kurske, Russia, is a child of God and I owe that to her. I also don't really know my daughter's history before age 6, so I don't want to put her any more at risk. Call me paranoid. But I also have experience from being a "Big Sister" mentor to a 15 year old who was raped in her own home by a "guest" and now has a little baby while she completes highschool. She will still go far because she is very smart and incredibly hard working but I stood by her in her court case and saw her through way too much for a 15 year old. Remarkably, it never changed her sweet, gentle disposition. It took alot for Stepany to share and forgive. I know readers appreciate her courage.
There were so many "pearls" in Stefany's writing:
~ "Life is too short to wish you had done what you wanted". "Only you can change your circumstances". "Why not go out on a limb - that's where the fruit is." These should be any student's mantra, especially on waitlist!!!
~ I admire her spiritual maturity and healthy positive outlook regarding forgiveness as key. It is the only way for a person to survive sometimes. "Don't judge or impose - make your request known to Him and let that be the end of it". Very hard to execute but this behavior will add years to our lives!
~ Her motto can be applied to all of us, "Anyone can be ordinary, in fact most people are. But to be extraordinary is to be in a constant state of determination to be more than what is easy for you to be."
~ Her idea for endorsed athletes to give back a percent to the community is perfect. And how about the tobacco and liquor companies?? They can do more than just the occasional DARE money contributions.
~ Her statistics really grabbed me. This society is just giving lip service to an inequality that we all know is not even close to being resolved. I want the world to know these statistics so that we can agree that creative solutions to these social conditions have a long way to go and way more money and attention is needed. Don't even get me started on this one, and I'm not even a minority (except the short time I lived in Puerto Rico, and the short times going back and forth to Russia and Venezuela).
I wonder what your sister thinks of E-Harmony? I read about it in a book I bought for my brother-in-law regarding how to cut to the chase when dating, as he already had gone through a traumatic divorce. It was recommended from a Christian radio station program on dating (James Dobson). I told him he might want to look into it, as it was suppose to be Christian based. He did and ended up finding his wife of two years. So far, so good. I wasn't too sure about her at first but I really think highly of her, after getting to know her.
Thanks again for a great read. I hope she strikes it RICH (but we all know it never really is about the money)! May she always "dance" and enjoy the journey!
So many people doubt and forget that they were created to live in abundance of health, finances and spirit. Oftentimes people think that means rolling around in money, but all it simply means in spiritual standards is to "owe no man" in Romans 13:8 of the New Testament in the Bible. All we are commanded to do is owe love. Our bodies are ours and to be owned by no one but the Lord. Our minds are to be guided by wisdom (Proverbs 1:7) because to be foolish is biblically defined as being "morally insufficient" or having no guidance towards the doing things in ways that are of benefit to others as opposed to selfishness and individual gain alone. Didn't mean to "preach" but this review just says it all and sums up that you are a sistah after knowledge and one who shares her heart.
