It's a fish's life by Liz Evans

I wrote this story a few years back in the early hours of the morning and it's nothing but a poor attempt at humour...anyway enjoy.
It was a quarter past two on a rather sunny Tuesday in which the beautiful event of birth was taking place in a small flat in Slough. The owner of the flat, a Mr Tom Pippins was however completely unaware of this and the fact that the bringer of new life was his pet goldfish that went by the name of Sammy.
It was at this exact time by a strange coincidence that Tom Pippins had decided that he no longer wanted a goldfish and that buying one in the first place was a mistake. They were boring, did nothing all day and were about as intelligent as a small pebble. Strangely enough Sammy thought the exact same thing about Tom.
After four days, in what is known in nautical terms as 'fish labour' five small fish eggs popped from the belly of Sammy and were now floating around the small heptagonal fish tank, which frankly needed a good clean. Mr Pippins was still completely oblivious to the fact and had now taken it upon himself to make rather excited ‘Oohing’ and ‘Ahhing’ noises whilst flicking through the chinchilla section of an animal book he had found under the sofa.
Sammy who was watching this, realised that life was pointless being that the only highlight of the day was watching countdown, decided that she’d had enough and promptly leapt from out of the fish tank and landed on the side of the cabinet next to a goldfish guidebook which had the words ‘50 ways to ensure your goldfish lives a long and happy life’ written in friendly print on the top of the page.
This latest event in Sammy’s life, or now lack of, was yet another thing that Tom was unaware of. Three days passed before he realized that the only thing now in his fish tank was the rainbow coloured pirate ship that he had bought from the pet shop just down the road from his flat.
Of course like any good dead goldfish, Sammy along with her tank full of water and sadly the five small, as some may say baby goldfish, were promptly flushed down the toilet never to be seen again.
Tom mourned for his pet fish called Sammy for exactly three minutes and twenty seven seconds before deciding to go down to the pet shop and buy himself a chinchilla.
Interesting. I suppose one could find humor in this, Liz. Somehow, I think it means a lot more than it would seem to at first reading. For example, what it says about human nature. Thank you. Love and peace,
