Another extract from - "The Secret Diary of Adrian Cat" - an adventure novel for teens and adults who like sophisticated humor.

Thursday November 20th   (St. Murphy’s Day of Travesty.)

6.45 am Today got off to a bad start. When the alarm rang, Trousers jumped out of bed. Unfortunately I was sleeping on top of him and landed with a thump on the ground. Trousers, selfish as ever, was so bothered about the tiny little bit of blood on his lacerated legs, he didn’t even look to see if I was injured.

8.20 am When I leapt onto the table to get a closer look at the new flower vase, I accidentally slipped and knocked it over. It shattered on the ground spraying the room with little bits of glass. Fortunately, none hit me for I could easily have been killed. Trousers took a few direct hits and it took him some time to remove the shrapnel. From the fuss he made you would think that it was my fault.

11.50 am Went to visit Lucky. His door was lying open so I sneaked in. Lucky was surprised to see me - in fact he was so surprised he fell into a sink full of dishwasher. That will teach him to drink from the taps.

6.00 pm After the drama of this morning I spent the rest of the day sleeping in the linen cupboard. As luck would have it, Trousers opened the door while I was in the middle of a scary dream. I got such a shock, the next thing I knew I was clinging on to his shirt for dear life. Fortunately I had recently sharpened my claws so hanging on was not a problem - though extracting claws from flesh can be difficult to do efficiently when the human is jumping up and down yelling. I eventually got back onto terra firma but not in the most elegant of ways.

11.52 pm This has been a thoroughly unlucky day for me. Thank goodness it’s almost over.

I’ll just retrieve my yellow plastic ball from the stairs then get some sleep. Oooops - sounds like Trousers has got to the plastic ball before me.
