In "White Mans Dreaming", mention is made of Lassiters Gold Reef.
In the 1930's, Harold Lassiter claimed that he'd discovered an extensive reef of gold in Central Australia.
Although many parties searched for this reef, it was never found.
Lassiter died while trying to re discover its location.
The area where this reef might have been, is now aboriginal land.
Interestingly, early Government surveys showed no gold in that area. In fact they said it was almost impossible that gold would be found there.
Today, several mining companies are negotiating mining leases in that area, and guess what they've found in small but commercial amounts there ?
In June, 2000, two college students — Amy Shute and Jason Burgeson — were approached by a group of men. Forced into the backseat and driven to a remote location, they were murdered in cold blood.
