You’ve no doubt heard of sticking it to the man! This Christmas it really happened!

The twelve days of sticky buns

You’ve no doubt heard of “sticking it to the man.” This Christmas it truly happened. There is a gourmet bakery shop in Wallingford, CT called Neils. They create such wonderful pastries and donuts including muffins, danish and every kind of baked goods you could think of.

A few days ago Nancy ordered 12 sticky buns for the kids and grandkids, two apiece. She figured they were the regular 2-3 inch size. When she placed the order the baker looked in surprise at her and asked,”Are you sure you want that many?”

“Why yes! Two each.

This morning we went to pick them up. To our surprise and embarrassment, each sticky bun was packaged in it’s own pastry box. Yes! Twelve boxes of sticky buns, each roll being about eleven inches in diameter. Twelve 12 inch boxes! It took four delivery staff to carry them to the car.

I could not resist singing to her the following song:

On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me

12 sticky buns,

11 cups of coffee

10 packs of sugar

9 coffee stirrers

8 glaze donuts

7 blueberry filled

6 corn muffins

5 golden scones

4 French crullers

3 plain donuts

2 apple filled

And 1 bottle of tums pills!

I figure that with the caffeine and sugar rush we would all be unable to sleep for twelve days. It will be a sweet Christmas!

I'm sure you found a way to manage to get rid of them, but I will not suggest any because everyone has their own way of charity. A woman I know was coming yesterday to bring me a gift. She didn't, but she's often late and that's okay. I know this woman has three homes for the assisted living. She probably gets many gifts from family members whose relative she is caring for cannot use or eat. So I assume she is dumping excess gifts on me like I've always been the target of hand-me-downs, regifting, etc.

And everyone seems to want to supersize everything, both for more profit and to satisfy growing appetites for diabetes, coronavirus, and other wonderful ways to spend retirement with all of it spent.

Finally, you reminded me of how my mother was able to provide us with sugary breakfasts of great variety on her wood stove without having to go out to the bakery to get her fabulous sticky buns, coffeecake, glazed and doughy doughnuts, cakes and cookies galore recipes just restored on on my website after the Grinch had stolen them.

Double finally, at this time of the year I want to congratulate you on your many fine, well thought out and sane articles drawn from the science, and not the myth, of political science.
