He looks at her face in a dream a wonderful daydream and wonders if he has never knew love, had love, truly given love would he be able to love her. She smiles tenderly at him knowing him but not really knowing him

He looks at her face in a dream a wonderful daydream and wonders if he has never knew love, had love, truly given love would he be able to love her. She smiles tenderly at him knowing him but not really knowing him and says, “What do you be thinking about? You always seem to be so far away deep in thought.” And every time he gives her the same response “you” sometime she smiles and walk off other times she stay and try to dig further, this time she said, “far away eyes” if you hear about it, then you know it is about you”. Then she turned and said, “You to young to be so serious”. That is another thing that separates her from the other hood rats, she reads and not just books, she writes her own stories, she reads her own things too. Her collection of books range from The Autobiography of Malcolm X to The Witching Hour, The Art of War to The Seduction of Silence. She made him think about women. She made him think about people. She made him think of his mother.

His mother was small like Girly was. She was light and delicate like Girly but that’s just about were the similarities end were as Girly loved her son, his mother didn’t. Were she was soft spoken and stand-offish his mother was loud and in your face. Were Girly seem to care so much about the future and people, his moms only wanted to make it through another day. Gorgeous he thought of his mother he had to been about three years old when he remembers holding a rag up to his mothers bleeding lip while she lay on the floor unconscious, his brother father had just realized that he wasn’t his son. He could remember his loud voice like thunder and her screams, he remembers his older brother getting thrown against the wall and he about to get his lights punched out, Mack picked him up by his tee shirt and he remembers the shaking not voluntary Mack was shaken. Mack just put him back on the ground looked back at the disaster he caused and walked out. His son was on the floor crying their mother was bloody on the floor not moving the house was completely ravaged holes in the wall chair thrown out of the side window TV entertainment system turned over and wrecked and this little three year old boy standing there looking at him eyes wide and not a tear in sight but there was fear there and love and confusion. Mack walked out. The only man he ever loved. It wasn’t until he was ten when he found out that Mack killed himself that very same night.

After he turned five that was almost the norm around his home, he never knew when he was going to walk in and find his mother dead by the hands of her new man Kirby. All his life the only thing he knew was violence. He could remember a summer spent with his grandmother in the south he was about seven then he remembers the stories she read to him in the bible, which still had a lot of violence. That’s where his logic came in….the world has always been full of violence this time and age was know difference.

He thought about all the girls he’d been with and there has been only one he hadn’t put his hands on and that was his best friend mother, he has grabbed her by the neck and held her against a wall but he has never hit her on the strength of his best friend Reed, and only once have he went back to a female after he has hit her. Sometimes he’d have them come back to him saying they was sorry and he really believed that they were.

Girly made him think of that beautiful baby dove he nursed back to health when he was young, no one helped him no one even knew about the bird but him. He knew his brother and his friends at that time would have done something sadistic to it like feed it to the dog down the street or tie a rope to it then set the rope on fire like they did cats and other birds in the hood. He can’t really explain why he kept it and nursed it back to health but it made him feel pretty proud when it flew away. It made him feel really important or like he had done something really important.

He made his first human kill when he was twelve (Kirby)men and other cats like himself. He was a big cat for his age, at twelve he could pass for sixteen to eighteen years old thick and solid like his real father. That’s why his mother hated him so; he heard from Pete one of the only OG's that is still around and not hooked on nothing. He runs a pool hall, he told him that he was the spitting image of the dude.

That’s how he found out about Mack from the Pete he told him about his real father, his moms wouldn’t tell him a thing about his real father. He found out that his old dude was like forty-five or something and his mother was nineteen twenty when she started fooling around with him. He was a big time player, they called Blood, he was a gang banger, dope man and his favorite hustle was pimping, that was what he was retiring on. “Man you moms was the finest thing this hood has every seen, would still be man if you know, but back then everybody was after yo moms”. She had been with Mack you know he was a hustler but he wasn’t banging like Blood and Mack man was a good guy you dig. Mack was about to get out the game because you came along he said he had two boys and a little girl in between and he wanted live without looking over his back. Shit he had yo moms and yawl and a bankroll of loot, man he was on his way outta here Youngblood” He remembered thinking that’s why she hates that name so much “young blood” but she had more to do with that than he did so he didn’t really care any more if she liked it or not.

“Man it broke his heart when he found out that yo moms had been sleeping around with Blood and that she had his baby and had him believing that you was his. It hurt him even more when comforted yo pops man and found out that she wanted to leave him for Blood, a pimp!” He remembers that word that was coming out of Mack’s mouth “pimp” over and over again, now things were starting to make more and more sense. “Man after he beat yo moms up he took a shotgun to his dome man it was over fo him man”

The first time after hearing the story he was well on his way to making a mark for himself in the game, he was already out on his own running his own little crew and supplying his mother with her addiction "dog food".

One thing was for sure his father had to have been a pretty mutherfucka cause he was and Reeds mom who he was hitting when he was thirteen and she was thirty called him something he would never forget in one of their drunken sexapades, after having her pinned to a wall…..A Gorgeous Monster

This is strong stuff, Mitzi, told in the kind of stringing-pearls language. It makes it clear that literature is not about big words but how you tell the tale, layer the fibers, to make a beautiful tapestry. ~~Nordette

Very strong work indeed. Rich with the kind of deep social realism and poetic psychological complexity that make real literature.

Wow Mitzi, another powerful episode, believable for what it is yet shocking to those who have never experienced this side of life or this type of world and that includes many. Still a trace of tenderness runs through it like a fine delicate line, hope you can keep it from snapping with the reality of the story.
