Kayla sat on the floor...out of breath, panting, sweating, with spots of blood in different spots on her body. All around her was bright orange and red flickering and her eyes was on a spot on the floor the only clean spot on the floor.

Kayla remember those Sunday afternoons on her hands and knees scrubing them floors. All I ever wanted was for them to listen to me......She wanted to cry but her tears were dry and she was confused. She was tired and the orange and red danced all around her head and it created a greyish black air that was determined to get inside of her and lay her down, to put her to sleep and give her the peace that she begged for.

The clean spot on the floor offered a serenity that she cryed for but the colors wouldn't hear of it. the colors sent that fog to engulf her and it was working, all she wanted was them to listen to her. Kayla glance up on the wall and her mother picture just shrunk into a black ball of nothing the same with her father's and her brother and sister and her was the last one and it shouldn't have happened to her picture, her picture didn't deserve for that to happen but she was too weak to stop it, just like everything else in her life.

Kayla was too weak to stand-up to her father, to let him know that he wasn't right to treat her that way. To make her strip down naked and beat her with a belt because he said that she had the devil in her. Because she was caught kissing Steven Miller a white boy in the back of her house when she was sixteen. She remember her father smacking her to the ground when she told him that it was his fault that she wanted to be touched on her inside part. And they both knew what she was talking about. (Nights of him wondering in her room, nights when the devil came out to play, when preacher soul turned inward/outward). And momma wouldn't hear of it......she wouldn't couldn't believe her husband, her mister preacher man would do such a horrible thing. To especailly such an unworthy speciment.

Kayla remember hitting the floor when she ran to her mother screaming and crying and bleeding from the backroom in fathers study where he was tired of just filling her-up and the desire was to much for him and he plunged deep inside of her innocence stealing her spirit and her soul. And that clean spot had blood on it and she had to get on her hands and knees and clean that spot and every spot she dripped blood. Kayla had to eat, sleep, read the bible and pray for her soul in the shed behind the house for an entire two-week preiod.

Both her brother and sister was older than her and she tried going to them but they turned their backs on her both said the samething "God did mother or father drop you on your head when you where a baby, father would never do that to you, such lies and you got more attantion than us ...so why the lies" And they went on to their lives and made their families and she knew she would be getting a beating because they were going to tell father of the things, the terrible lies she told them.

Kayla could still the welts on her body from this last time. The walls and the floors roar and the colors vowed to get her even if she was the one who gave them their voice and with that greyish black cloud they sent heat and some sort-of sleeping agent and Kayla face hit the floor thinking how hard it was to get them all together her mother couldn't have felled ill at a better time, and the pot of rat poison filled coffee did the trick, was just the right amount to make them just as weak as her allowing her to tie them up not kill them.

Father had just enough lighter fluid and gas to douse them and the room and the house and the cars Kayla wanted them all to be totally off the world, his brother's wife was laid outside of the house just laying their to weak to stop her, maybe she'll get it maybe she won't but her brothers kids was just like him and had to go too, two boys with the devil in their soul. Kayla just locked them in her room and the screams had faded and just like the pictures on the wall she would be last. But everone will know the story, Kayla had dug-up her lost embro that her father aborted and placed the panties of her stolen innocence in their and a book she had kept logging everything that happened to her, and all the times she tried to get help, from her teachers, and everyone else she went to, someone will listen now.

Kayla was too weak to rasie her hands and cover herself from the smog that covered her eyes and her ears and her mouth filling her throat....and her eyes closed and she didn't hear the sirens, she didn't see the colors laughing and jumping around in victory or the crying and dying of her family all she saw was...........peace

I can see why you referred the readers of your poem "Empty Spaces" here. This is so intense, Mitzi. Too many innocents abused and molested...and too many still do not listen...

damn girl, this was deep. I didn't think poor Kayla would find the guts to do this. I was so into the story the whole time. I didn't want it to end.

You definately need a sequel.
