My first story written years ago

Hymywho, Hymywho. Who and what are Hymywho's, you ask? They are the feelings that stay if ever

bullied, the sadness you feel if your dog goes to heaven, the loneliness you feel when your best friend

moves, or the anger you feel when your punished by Daddy. So you see, Hymywho's are all the sad,

happy, mad,or glad feelings; the feelings we all feel whether we are young or old, boy or girl, or in this

case, son and father. The Hymywho's exist to let us know how we feel. Not all Hymywho's should be

listened to; these Hymywho's are the worst bad feelings we don't like to feel. The bad Hymywho's are

troublemakers indeed. The very angry, the hateful, the jealous and the sad are what these bad

Hymywho's are all about. To better explain the who, what, and whys, I have to take you to a home a lot

like your own. There we meet  a friend of mine; his name is Douglas. Monday night around 9:30pm,

it's time for five-year-old little Douglas to go to bed. His daddy finishes his bedtime story, '...and they

lived happily ever after. The end. Well, it's about that time, son. '

'Daddy, can I tell you something?'

'Sure can, Son.'

'Daddy, I have dreams-bad dreams, and I get scared and don't know what to do after the dreams.'

'Scary dreams, you say?'

'Uhh huh,' nods Douglas slowly.

'Well, you are about the age I was when my daddy told me of the Hymywho's.'

'Hymywho, huh?' asked Douglas.

'Not 'Hymywho huh', just plain old Hymywho.'

'Hymywho, who?'

'Hey, Douglas, are you sure you're not part hoot owl?' his daddy said with a smile.

'Daddy!'

'Ok, ok, Douglas. Hymywho's, Douglas, are the feelings we all feel, whether they be good or bad.'

'Hymywho Reds are the scary feelings we feel during bad dreams, or the fear of doing new things, or worse- dealing with a bully.'

'Hymywho Blues are the sad and lonely feelings. Hymywho Greens are the happy and glad feelings like birthdays or Christmas. Hymywho Yellows, of course, are happier than happy and gladder than glad. Yellows are bigger brothers to the green Hymywho's; the only other brothers are the bad Hymywho's, black and gray.' 'Black Hymywho's are the mad feelings; Grays are the jealous feelings you feel when someone has more than you. Douglas, I believe that you have a Red Hymywho who has paid you a visit. Bad dreams, dark places, sounds at night are all up his alley.'

'So what do I do, Daddy, if I know who it is and that they're being bad?' asked Douglas.

'Well, when I was about your age, mean old Red Hymywho paid me a visit. That was when I ran into my first bully; Big Jimmy Marks was his name.'

'I was really scared when it happened, since I'd never had a bully before' his daddy explained.

'What did you do, Daddy?'

'When the school day was over, Jimmy and I met face-to-face by the monkey bars.'

'A mean old smirk ran over his face as he breathed his nasty tuna fish breath towards me. He whispered words that, back then, terrified me; he said, 'I'm gonna squish you like a bug.'

'Just then, I remembered what my daddy had said about the Red Hymywho's. Red Hymywho like to see little kids scared. So, don't let the Hymywho get its way. Do you know what happened?'

'What, Daddy?'

'I found out that when I stood up to my fear, and to my mean old Hymywho, that there was no longer any reason to be afraid.'

'My bully backed down and ran away after I stood up to him.'

'Daddy, I'm afraid of the dark and the noises and bad dreams.'

'That's just the point; when you feel scared, and the Red Hymywho tries to keep you afraid, you just stand up to that mean old Hymywho.'

'Before the bully met me outside, I took my daddy's advice and repeated what he'd told me.

'Hymywho, Hymywho, you can't scare me; Hymywho, Hymywho, you won't scare me; Hymywho, Hymywho I'm not scared.'

'Then what happened, Daddy?'

'Like I said, I stood up to my fear and never feared bullies again.'

After a kiss and a hug, Daddy left Douglas to his Hymywho. Creak of the floor-his eyes open wide; rustle of leaves- his jaw hits the floor. His eyes play tricks and make shadows scary. Just then he whispered under his breath..

'Hymywho, Hymywho, you can't scare me'- just a bit louder-'Hymywho, Hymywho, you won't scare me'- then speaking, not scared- 'HYMYWHO, HYMYWHO, I'M NOT SCARED!'

Just then, he didn't feel scared anymore, and wouldn't allow scariness into his room anymore. So, if you ever feel scared and you don't know what to do, believe what you say, and repeat after me:

'Hymywho, Hymywho, you can't scare me; Hymywho, Hymywho, you won't scare me; Hymywho, Hymywho, I'm not scared.' After saying those words and believing what you have said, you will fall fast asleep, safe in your bed.

THE END.
