(excerpt from nanowrimo novel in progress)

TJ was on the phone with Ted Mann from Headquarters in Langley, and he’d asked for a backup in the person of Sharon Gold, who was currently the Agency Director of Covert Activities, housed in the Pentagon.  Sharon, Ted and TJ had worked together on several cases over the past few years, and they made a formidable team.   It was rare that they were able to socialize on a personal level, however they had been close enough friends to have complete trust in one another.  When Sharon and Ted had married over a decade ago, TJ had been their best man.   The couple had always worked for separate agencies within the government.  However, they were able to coordinate their assignments in a manner that was invaluable to the country as a whole.   On a more personal level, however, the couple had always done their best to arrange dates for TJ with other female friends and acquaintances, much to his chagrin.

 Finally, on a particularly bad day, as TJ liked to call it, the last blind date that Sharon had arranged was with a Courtney Mimi Makem, the final straw in this matchmaking project.  TJ still got emotionally choked up whenever he was reminded of Ms. Makem, and he’d always teased Ted and Sharon that he “owed them one” for that catastrophic coupling. 

Ms. Makem, it turned out called TJ and asked him for the date, and because he already knew that his friends had encouraged her, he accepted.  The date was a total “Makem Makehim Mayhem” date, as TJ referred to it.  Ms. Courtney Makem insisted on picking him up, not meeting him elsewhere. She arrived wearing a nose ring, not the tiny inconspicuous type, but a huge gold loop that was hooked in the center of her nose and gave her the look of a wild bull who’d escaped from behind a fence. The six foot tall model was beautiful, however, she did not come close to resembling the woman who graced the covers of many major magazines in the country.  The demure and glamorous woman had transformed herself into a biker chick. That would have been cool to TJ, however, she arrived on a Harley, wearing leather boots to her knees with spiked 4 inch heels.  The pointed toes on the black shiny leather boots should have had labels on them, “Warning:beware-dangerous weapons”, and they could easily have drawn blood upon touch.  When she pulled off the large Silver Patterned helmet, she shook her long, luxurious mane of wild red hair, running her long slim fingers through it.   TJ had watched her theatrical arrival through his large terrace window, and had

smiled to himself, thinking, “I’m gonna get you Ted and Sharon you will never do this to me again!”, as he walked to the door to answer the ringing bell.

 Courtney strode in as if she were walking the Milan runway, threw her helmet onto the chaise lounge, without missing a beat, she then walked over to TJ and placed her ruby red lips on his frozen lips.  She probed her long tongue directly into his mouth, and almost strangled his tonsils with the tip, causing him to almost stop breathing, wishing he had an oxygen machine nearby.   He had not expected her to be so aggressive, leaving his male ego stunned and stalled.  She cooed in his ears using the same elaborate tongue lashing on his ears, giving him the feeling that she was a mama tiger washing her cub.   TJ thought Courtney Makem was going to Make him right in his own home, and it was going to be done within the first ten minutes of her arrival.  Short of his pushing her off him, he managed to ease her gently, although the gentle nudge held some authority, leaving no doubt to his message.  With no preliminary getting to know one another, and no discussion about the date arrangements, Courtney seemed to have her date blindsided.  TJ trapped against the walls of his house, thinking how embarrassed he was going to be when he had to scream “Help…Rape”.   Needless to say, he pissed off  Ms. Makem, and she didn’t Make Him, so she did her arrival act in reverse, exactly, and left on her Harley, into the sunset, or wherever!   That was TJ’s last blind date.
