One who has lived amongst many fictitious lives as well as the real ones comes away with choices that are perhaps more than he deserves. But… when such choices lead to happiness that is not at the expence of anyone else, well, that’s special. I knew of such a man.

 A Gentle Man

He has outgrown the hungers of his younger hands, the bright clamor of applause, the fevered chase.  Now he longs for quieter proofs: the clean click of a door closing on a windy day, light finding the rim of a chipped mug at dawn, the warm give of soil when he presses seed to earth and knows, by touch alone, when to stop.

His regrets do not bleed or bruise. They shimmer. Moments that once rose like weather, a love that could have been braver, a joy he might have leaned into harder, wishing now he had lifted them higher, stood longer in their heat, wrung every possible note from their shining.

He wanted many things, yes, but happiness was not one. For that, his longing was nil.  Contentment came from another craft altogether: taking the sour ache of a day and worrying it until a lesson loosened its hold, learning it carefully, if imperfectly, and smiling anyway at the honest effort to understand.

Once, he found a sparrow chick fallen and trembling.  He cupped it like breath, climbed the tree, returned it to its waiting world.  The smile that followed lit his face, a practiced, well-worn grace,
and he carried it gently among others, wearing satisfaction easily, even as they puzzled over theirs.

Hello,

I just finished reading your story and wanted to reach out. I've read many stories online, but yours had something special about it. The writing felt immersive, cinematic, and incredibly easy to visualize.

As a commissioned comic artist, I work on Webtoons, comics, character illustrations, and cover art. Your story has all the ingredients of a great visual project, and I would love the opportunity to discuss a possible comic adaptation with you.

If you're interested, feel free to contact me on Inst.gram (luna art soul).

Looking forward to hearing from you!

This has many beautiful lines - the clean click of a door closing on a windy day - it’s a treasure to have simplicity sometimes.

I believe I know that man. And many.

While I possessed that gentle nature you describe so well, I also raged against injustice wherever I saw it practiced with impunity and arrogance. I always sought love, but didn't find it until I quit looking.

It was only when I quit chasing money for other people and found retirement, that I truly felt free.

We've all gone through seasons where we were so desperate to be understood, that we forget about being understanding of others. In order to move gracefully into the next season, we have to understand why we felt the way we felt, and why we did what we did, and why we no longer have to feel and act that way. Enjoyed the message in this. Good images. Peace.
