     The colorful language of the past-mostly Appalachia, was their slang. If you ever chance to visit Appalachia and run across elderly folk, they may want to tell you a story. Print this off, as you may need it to understand the language. In no way is this intended to degrade or humiliate the people. This is just The Way It Used To Was!!

 

PARTS-Area or neighborhood/What's he doin in these parts?

KIVVER-Covered/Them young-uns is kivvered in the pox

HET-To become heated or upset

PLUMB-Completely/Im plumb upset with her lollygaggin around

LOLLYGAG-To loaf or loiter/Why's Clem always lollygaggin around?

FUR PIECE-A great distance/He lives a fur piece from his kin folks

CRICK- A stiffness/Marvin has a crick in his neck

PIZEN-Poison/I've seen lots of pizen snakes in these parts

PEAKED- Pale or sick looking/He's lookin mighty peaked today

SMART-To hurt/It sure smarts where I got hit today

SHED-OFF-Get rid of or unload/You got to get shed of that old mule

AIM-To intend or to plan/I aim to buy some land

DAST-Dare/Don't you dast ask Jeke to the doins

HOLLER-A small valley/She comes from over in the holler

Are you sure these are real words? Just kidding! I remember my grandma using a few of these.
