DVD review of Highwaymen starring James Caviezel.

Highwaymen

This psychological thriller starring Jim Caviezel is a streamlined, right-to-the- point scary movie. There is a serial killer, played by Colm Feore, who is using his ’72 El Dorado Cadillac to create havoc and carnage all over the country. He never hits a region consecutively and his victims are always picked randomly.

Rennie Cray’s wife was one of those victims. Cray, played by Caviezel actually chased his wife’s killer down and maimed him in a vicious car wreck. The problem is that the police did not believe that the murder was anything more than an unfortunate accident, but they did throw Cray into jail for three years for aggravated assault. His wife’s killer spent 18 months in ICU. Now both of them are on the street in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

Given that the movie is less than 90 minutes long, it was hard to completely invest in any of the characters. The general storyline was fun to jump into, and fans of Stephen King and Dean Kootnz will find it easy to forgive the lack of real meat to this film. Regardless of the thin development, the film did keep me interested and that saves it from a really low grade.

The only extras on the DVD include the theatrical trailer for Highwaymen, and there were trailers for The Butterfly Effect, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Frequency.
