This movie picks up where the last one ended. Prince Charming shows up to collect a kiss and a new bride, but is shocked to find the Big Bad Wolf (in Granny’s clothes) instead. Then he is told that Princess Fiona is on her honeymoon.
We see a montage of Shrek and his new bride enjoying their honeymoon. Then they arrive to their home in the swamp to find Donkey waiting on them. As they are trying to get Donkey to go home to his own new bride (remember the Dragon from Shrek 1), they receive a formal invitation to Far, Far Away to receive the blessing of Fiona’s parents, played by John Cleese and Julie Andrews.
Little do the King and Queen know that Fiona as chosen to remain an ogre for her new husband. Shrek doesn’t think going to Far, Far Away to be a good idea, because he has a strong sense that they will not approve of him or their union. Being the whi…er…good husband that he is, Shrek finds himself on the way to meet her parents, and Donkey is tagging along for the adventure.
Far, Far Away is a wonderful spoof of Hollywood, and the film continues to build on the great storytelling introduced in the first movie. There are several sub-plots and back door deals happening in the story that lead to a lot of jokes and additional spoofs.
Antonio Banderas threatens to steal the show with his portrayal (and voice talent) as Puss-N-Boots. Other great new characters introduced include the Ugly Stepsister, Prince Charming, and his own mother the Fairy Godmother.
Extras on the DVD include an all-new surprise ending, a spoof of American Idol called Far Far Away Idol, the featurettes “Meet Puss in Boots,” “Meet the Cast of ‘Shrek 2,’” and more. Shrek 2 is a great movie and DVD for kids and adults alike.
