The father of 16, 10 still living, failing to leave Saigon in time in 1975, he burned his identity, never worked again and lived off his wife's street drug [prescription] sales. When nuns saved a son, she converted to Roman Catholic. Nha's wife had a stroke and after 8 years of care by a daughter, died and was buried in Saigon.
Nha's other daughter escaped in 1975 and a son in 1979. The son's wife brought the family to the US in 1992. Mr. Nguyen died recently. The Buddhists and Catholics got their due. His burial was last Saturday in a fine suburban cemetery. So far, his burial only cost $44,000. He paid for it by saving his Social Security checks.
