LIGHTS OUT

I re-read the Declaration of Independence today, and I do believe it is relevant to the situation within our own time, to our current state of government, and our out-of-control-taxation.  As it seems to have been then; it is blatantly obvious now that our leaders have become irrational and incapable of stemming the tied of their corruption.  It is no longer about the intended good work of our government to preserve the well-being of its free people, but instead about the majority of our elected officials preferring to work as their own entity, without compassion for all of the people they are mandated to protect, thus disguising insane initiatives feigned for the good of the nation.  And to dare to insult us by coining political terms the likes of 'transparency' with such an obvious arrogant disregard for our intelligence.  If only a few of us who have gone deaf and blind by our own internal banter, such as," it can't happen in America," would awaken, we would surely draft another, very similar, Declaration of Independence, and then do exactly as our forefathers did.

Here is part of what that great document says for those who have not read it in a while.

"That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.."

Are there not a few studiers of history among us? Was it not the Declaration of Independence that was written to the King of England to warn him of his unfortunate decisions and false conclusions that by misinforming and manipulating the ignorant horde he could subjugate them and render them incapable of governing themselves? I believe the Declaration of Independence put a revelation into the King's hand if not a huge knot in his stomach.  My fellow Americans, our Government has gone too far in squandering our money, and wasting our resources, but worse it has made a great and good-hearted America into a laughing stock, if not the target of the world's aggressions. Yet we sit in our living rooms absorbing bytes from our television sets that would have us singing and saluting until, I guarantee, we will suffer, ultimately, the final blow to the head, as does the unsuspecting steer brought to slaughter. I will tell you, with certainty, that the poor cattle thinks, just a moment before the killing club smashes into its skull, "Oops, I didn't think this was going to happen to me."

Wake up America.  Please sit down and write in eloquent prose your own Declaration of Independence.  E-mail it to your Congressman, your Senator, and to the President of our United States of America, who has recently been known to pre-arrange town-hall meetings by censoring the questions beforehand.  Transparency?  Write it now.  Write down how you feel about the current state of affairs, and describe the fear you put aside every day; a fear that nags at your insides as you worry about how close we sit to the edge of anarchy.  Write about the two trillion dollar,(one year), deficit, and think about how hard it is to pay your own bills, much less the bills of a government fighting two wars, soon to be three, owning bancrupted companies and corrupt banks that are starving small businesses of capital while raising interest rates on their best customers after receiving billions in bail-out money from our empty government coffers.  Write about an unemployment rate that will soon usurp 10 percent of the population.  Yet, sadly it seems no manner of hardships will stop the insanity of the corrupt science community from self-perpetuating the fears of global warming, or the misguided environmentalists from using the Endangered Species Act to starve the California orange groves of needed water for the sake of a one-inch minnow.  Nothing will stop our President from submitting to unfounded fears of rising ocean levels to institute an economically proven disastrous piece of legislation known as the Cap and Trade Act.  Write about your anger over a State Governor who leaves his station for an entire week, without a word to his constituents, to go to Argentina to cheat on his wife, or write a few well structured sentences that tell of the outrage you feel toward a Speaker of the House who promises to issue spending reports on all members of the House of Representatives, but then gives them the opportunity to scramble to rewrite them.

Speak out against the daily cost to operate a nuclear submarine and then drive, eyes wide, over our crumbling roads and bridges, and look down at our rusted railroads and please, oh please, read about our under-funded school systems. Write it all out in a few good paragraphs and send it today. The fourth of July.  What better day to speak your mind.

And if by chance you read this article subsequent to the fourth of July, send your letter just the same. We must hold tight to the financial freedom to better ourselves through private investment, innovation, and self determination. Those defining American characteristics will allow us to continue to be generous toward our fellow man, no matter his color or creed.
