Preachy! Who Me?

Aha! Already your panties are all in a bunch! Because you judged the the book by it's cover in haste, meaning the title, did you not? Oh, I heard you indeed! Is he going to get on his high-horse again, and use that preachy tone?

I in sincere smile confess, my Daddy indeed, even when I remained young and virgin of heart, often had to suggest I get down off of this very same horse! I as well was admonished often to step down off my soapbox! Yes, it remains even to this day an irritation to folk often I think, this tone as perceived by merely some of course, as being preachy!

Now first off, in my defense of self, of which I am quite accomplished, polished and practiced, due to much such defence over my life-span of fifty-two years. I smile of course as if to play it off, yet true I fear, so true . I feel often however that we mistakenly perceive one's words as preachy, when in fact, many times it remains only unadulterated passion and fervent conviction and persuasion of heart we hear!

Yes, often the inspired preacher's blazed words blasting, differ little from the passion and inspiration one feels, declares and speaks, when convicted, prompted and inspired of heart. All, or most I should more prudently point out, have at least one thing they remain passionate about to a fault, I think we most would agree! Alas I merely remain one standing in time who remains passionate about much!

But I have remained one over the years, that could not easily shut out the cries of injustice I heard raging about the globe in blazing prairie fire fashion and form. I guess most just call it being too serious!
I agree that I tend to be a tad to serious, somber and sober at times, as well as perhaps too reflective and planted in steadfast pondering posture daily, but geez, all I can do is quote Popeye I fear, who so eloquently phrased it with his words bellowing and standing tall in time, when he exclaimed! "I am what I am"

Oh yes, what serious among us this day quotes Popeye I ask? Well, I should like to think this points to my more subtle sense of humor as well, often muted and vieled I confess! I personalize merely in order to cause flickering sparkles of commonality to trace our walk as one, for surely it is! Yes, a walk of one, we have not yet fully discovered!

Not attempting to bore you this day with overinflated philosophical pondering pasted in loft idealism, I shall continue on if I may, with your kind indulgence? I noticed when young and yes sitting in the pews obviously designed to be hard! I noticed quickly the frowns often, that would attack and instantly race across the faces of my older pew warmers sitting in equal discomfort. I found it amusing indeed, that so often words that I deemed even when young as relevant, profound and sound, could cause such an attack of ugly animated facial gesticulations to repaint the faces of many!

As I grew older of course, the picture became quite clear indeed, yes..... none like to be preached at! We each and all are quick indeed to cast our amen up in the air, when the preacher is preaching to someone else, yet we like not the same game, when the words fall upon the doorstep of our heart's!

So I continued on in my steadfast observation over the years, concerning this odd reaction to preaching, only to discover this simple foundational explanation.
None care for truth, if it paints them as wanting! Now I could stop right there, and I remain quite certain that many would applaud such a quick ending to such a painful and darting topic, yet if I may.....

I believe, and am convicted of a fully persuaded heart, that all people possess a conscience, yes, often left behind in our youth, discarded and deemed not worthy of continuance in time. But all when young, knew the unmistakable call of their heart's conscience! It is true , is it not?

Yes, I think so, therefore I close quickly this day by merely leaving you with this gem for consumption, I suggest this day that we remain as a people to quick to dismiss anything that sounds preachy, because often our hearts fold instantly in shame and conviction, why? Because we did wrong and knew it! And yet often due to pride, fear and uncertainty, we will not reverse our course, nor reassess our stance, even in the light of our conscience standing tall and crying our error of foul!

Preachy often stands in good I have found, and the blatant reaction of ugliness to such good, often displays a heart that has grown hard. I suggest merely this day that we once again begin to consider the inherent value and worth of this voice we call conscience, and begin to let her have her way.

I for one must close by confessing this, I have never in my years of walking ever been led down the wrong road, by listening to this gentle voice of truth within, yes my conscience!
For no, I for one was never able to dismiss it and discard it in my past, though for many years I tried desperately! Yet she would follow me about in shadow, and lost puppy dog fashion and form, till one day I in weariness, due to running, said ok, we'll be friends once more, and walk togeather hand in hand, from this day forward, yes me, my conscience and me.
Peace,
Rodney Evan Bohen

This means you're ALIVE, Rodney, and still have a pulse! Hurray for Popeye! Thanks for bringing him back!
