The Devils Advocate

Yes, people generally are quite predictable are they not? Seldom surprising me, for most all say the same thing, with exactly the same amount of pompous bias, weighed and meted out in heaping tablespoon portion, displayed, manifested and spoken.

Seldom it would seem do we find a voice of reason that gracefully, in diplomacy and sincerity, straddles and bridges the gulf of bias, thus representing a fair assessment, not polished in high sheen bowling ball sparkle and shine.

Yep, no matter what the controversy, you have two opposing sides, with seldom a voice representing the what if? Middle ground, there is middle ground is there not? A land, and shade of gray, nearly always yes? Is there room any-longer for the middle ground advocate and pundit? Or has our blurred blinder vantage point eyesight, deemed us beyond such a thing? Designed and created to serve, as a check and balance of both heart, mind, and soul.

We of old, used the term "devils advocate" Yes, one who merely, for the sake of credible and fair debate, will immerse himself or herself into the opposing viewpoint, to merely see what lies there insofar as viable, credible and reason unearthed. Though I like not the name and title, I do so love to be this advocate, sensing there is a desperate need indeed, for folk to see the middle ground, or the opposing views of reason or lack.

Yes, I frustrate folk often, maddening! Have been termed my devils advocate antics, advocate of odd, blazing back and forth between both sides of the topic, defending this side then that side, why? Because I sincerely believe for us as a thinking people to support an idea, notion, philosophy or ideal, we must FIRST observe with open mind the opposing viewpoint! Why you ask? Well, because all, of average intelligence realize, understand and know, that to support and defend an idea in passionate persuasion of heart, in order to protect yourself, and to disarm the opposing sentiment advocated and espoused just around the corner, one should always anticipate the others view and retort fast coming, before he or she launches their courtroom oratory and dissertation.

Yes, indeedy, before I debate you or engage you orally, I shall first visit your side of the argument, to see what lies there indeed, so when you ask, as you will, have you ever considered this? I can quickly retort yes, I have!

Courtroom antics you say! Debate 101 basics, attorneys tools of deceit, manipulation and control! Perhaps, I merely refer to it as common sense! Yes, observing the opposing view, before jumping in the lake naked, so as to speak, whilst equipped and armed in stark stupidity!

Oh, I'm sorry, you didn't even realize there was an opposing view did you? To be truly considered in respect, with due deference offered unto men? Hence the reason for this brief treatise this day, planted in time.

We not only refuse to hear the other mans side, but plug our ears whilst they speak, leaving us planted firmly in the same obstinate landscape of ignorance today, that we wallowed and muddied ourselves in yesterday as well!

We learn only by listening, we grow only by hearing, we become wise by due consideration given to all the facts, that others hold dear in fervent heart clutched. This basic premise and reason for verbal or oral intercourse if you please, when implemented, remains this, that it, with gained insight, can paint new vantage points of observation to time, we had never seen prior, it therefore then has the innate and inherent ability and power when enacted, to bridge estrangement and cause civil wars to cease!

Of course one prerequisite to playing the game, and standing in the office of the devils advocate, is that one must first be found wearing a heart, standing in fair! For one of fair heart and constitution, is always willing to listen in sincerity to the other mans viewpoint and side. Perhaps this explains why we see so few in number blessing the tables of discussions this day, representing the camp of yes, "the devils advocate"

I don't much like the name, but I do enjoy the game!
