A list of the common stereotypical behaviors.

The following is a list of some of the common stereotypical behaviors in autistic children.

• They may have difficulty with expressive and receptive language.


• They can be verbal or non-verbal and have difficulty expressing their wants and needs.


• They may act as if they do not hear you and appear deaf.


• They may have a limited range of interests and repeat the same thing over again.


• They may be over/under sensitive to loud noises,bright light, buzzing florescent lighting, and textures of foods and fabrics.


• May have a need for the same predictable routine.


• May show unusual responses to people and have difficulty interacting with adults and/or children.


• May be attached to a certain household object or toy and will not part with it easily.


• They may rock,toe walk,finger or hand flap, spin themselves or objects, or line up toys or objects in a line.


• They may hit, bite, pull hair, bang their head or other bizarre unacceptable and/or unpredictable behavior.
