Henry Ford was born on a farm but his passion called him to tinker with automobiles (better known as contraptions in those early stages) Ford quit the farm, married Clara Bryant and ended up tinkering with a gasoline contraption in a red brick shed in the back of his house in Detroit.
A lot of other men had built autos, but Ford had a special vision. In the 20th century Ford changed the way people lived and thought. His vision was to build cars cheaply, so everyone could own one. He wanted to standardize parts so that anyone could buy a new carburetor in any one of the garages that would spring up.
And spring up they did. Ford made 15 million model Ts in 19 years. Roads were built. Gas pumps and garages sprouted. He built an industrial empire that put auto wheels to modern America and the modern age.
