Recently I shared a list of 32 Books Your Kids Will Love to help try and get preteens and teenagers to make reading a bigger part of their lives. Studies have shown a significant decline in the amount of reading these kids are taking on these days, and I wanted to provide some suggestions for a few great books that parents and their kids could explore together – most of which can be bought for less than a dollar online.

Immediately after the article was posted, however, I suddenly remembered a bunch more great books that really should have been on my list. Because of this, I'm sharing another 32 books I think your kids will love.

What's interesting about the books on both of my lists is that most of them also appear on another list: the list of challenged books. That means these books are, or were, banned by some American schools and libraries at one time or another. In the first article I wrote on this topic, I suggested that preteens and teens lose interest in reading because of all of the great entertainment options available today that a lot of us didn't have when we were growing up, like the Internet, video games, and social media outlets – and I still stand by that. But then I started thinking that maybe this banning of books in school plays a small role in that, too, by limiting access to these books in classrooms and school libraries.

But, I really don't think so.

Because, while it's fascinating to see which books are banned and why, the truth of the matter is that the school systems and school boards really don't have the power to ban books at all – at least not any more they don't. Like I said, these books are all available in most public libraries and are easy to find online, often for less than a buck. In fact, by banning these books and putting them on a special list, the powers that be could actually be helping to make these books more interesting to the same kids who think reading for entertainment isn't cool anymore. At least, that's how smart parents could spin it to try and get their kids to read more.

Either way, schools decide which books they are going to utilize and teach in their institutions. They don't get to choose which books anyone can or can't read. With this in mind, here are 32 more books I think your preteens and teens will love. The titles with an asterisk, almost all of them on this list, represent banned books: how exciting!
