Super Cold is alive and well and complicating the holidays!
God built Moms to last!
I felt terrible.
I did. I didn’t get my column written last week. Thing was, I completely forgot about it until Thanksgiving. Truly. I was entirely too tired to remember to write. To write anything, actually. I didn’t get my latest book submitted. Didn’t get any work done on my romances. Didn’t manage to do much at all that required both my brain and my hands working in concert.
It had nothing, I assure you, to do with roasting a turkey.
Super Cold!
Cyclone, Scooter and Yours Truly came down with a cold. Actually, for me, it was the same cold I’ve been dragging around since October. A cold that has more staying power than some television series, more variations than a Bach fugue, and more sniffles than the standard soap opera. Yes, it’s Super Cold!
No, it doesn’t have a theme song.
Cyclone, being the strong and stormy fellow that he is, kicked Super Cold’s hindquarters in just a few days. Well, his own mighty self and some Echinacea lozenges did, anyway.
Scooter, being too young to partake of said lozenges, and also being too young for almost any medication, had to suffer. So did his mom.
Super Mom!
Yes, I will call myself that for having survived Thanksgiving Week. Would you believe, Reader, that I averaged, over the week, approximately three hours of sleep per night, yet still kept the laundry moving, the dishes washed, and yes, I did roast a turkey and make a small but yummy Thanksgiving feast? I did!
I did it all while walking a sick infant, too. Yay, me! J But!
I have to turn in my cape, because I got virtually no significant writing done. That’s okay, I guess. That cape doesn’t fit this Work at Home Mom too well, anyway.
Kids or Keyboard?
There is no choice, really, for the work-at-home parents of the world. Kids have to come first.
Besides, trying to type with one hand while bouncing a snuffling, coughing toddler is incredibly difficult! LM, in Michigan, and Shaggy, here in Arid-zona, can both attest to the fact that my spelling suffers exponentially the longer I am bouncing a baby.
Yes, my children have priority. They do. But their mom needs contact with some grown-ups or she goes insane.
Not that I would have far to go, as LM and Shaggy would both say.
Coming Attractions!
In my search for strange ways to share my life as a working writer and a domestic neo-engineer, I have turned to Cyclone, who can always be counted on to have an imagination as fertile as anything produced by mankind since the advent of the Telstar game system.
Which really, really dates me. Who can remember that ancient computer game, Pong? Now, raise your hands if you actually played it! Or owned an original TRS-80 computer? Or the Coleco Telstar system?
Yeah, me too.
So! Back to my firstborn. He has said I should write a story for Christmas, and so he is going to help me with it. J Look for the first part in next week’s column. Note: It will probably be a strange variation on a Christmas Classic.
In closing…
As we prepare to celebrate our Savior’s birth, and decorate, shop, cook, and send cards, let us remember our priorities. A very special person needs our attention both this season and always. Spend time with him every day. He will keep your mind and heart healthy, and that’s a promise.
But –! Stock up on Echinacea drops! Super Cold is alive and well and coming to a neighborhood near you!
Happy Holidays, from my family to yours!
