Romans 8:5
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
The things of the flesh:
Most days, I spent my time doing things that I should have been fellowshipping with the Lord. However I like spending hours in front of my computer chatting to my friends, writing my blog or playing with my child. I also like going to the cinema to watch a good movie. Then, I enjoy reading once in a while a good novel or a theological book. I also like pampering myself in a beauty salon or shopping on the internet where there are so many temptations for my money to be spent on.
However, those things I mentioned only satisfy the desires of my flesh only temporarily because, in the next hour, I would find myself busy doing something else again. As a matter of facts, material things will never satisfy our souls or the desires of our flesh because they are obsolete and do not last. Those things will break one day and beauty treatments don’t last forever!!!!!!!
1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
The common thing to all those particular things I have mentioned doing as a hobby is that the more we earn, the more we crave for new things to spend it on. It is like a never ending cycle.
1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
The things of God:
Besides the things that God has created are not man-made but for our own pleasure to enjoy and they are completely free. They will satisfy us for a long time once we have enjoyed them. For example, going to the seaside, mountains walks or having fellowship with our children or human beings in general. Most importantly, those naturel things are free to enjoy and bring such a peace to our hearts and souls when we use them in harmony and enjoy the things that God has created in the correct way.
Sometimes, God can also reveal us the truth about some situation regarding our lives through his word or can also use a person to speak his will into our lives. As a result, we feel a real sense of satisfaction and happiness when God gets involved with our lives because He cares.
John 6:63
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Evangelising is the most rewarding experience that a Christian can encounter in his entire life such as being used by God to bring the gift of eternal life to those that need to know the love of God through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Mark 16:15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
To conclude, I think that we need to remember that addictions are only of this world on a temporary basis but the things of God are eternal. Let’s get busy with the kingdom of God and we will find utter and lasting satisfaction.
Galatians 5:16
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
