It was a cold, snowy night, and me and my girlfriend were going home after visiting some friends.  It had been snowing for about three hours and the roads were slick and getting dangerous! 

My girlfriend was driving, and it was late at night, and when she hit the brakes to stop at a red traffic light, she lost control of the car, and we went sliding into the intersection!

We quickly noticed red flashing lights from a police car near-by, and were escorted out of the intersection.  The police officer gave my girlfriend a warning about the conditions, and then he came around to the passenger side and asked to see my drivers license.  He went back into his car to check things out, etc. 

A few minutes later, the officer came over to my side of the car, and told me to get out of the car...that I was under arrest, and I had a warrant out for my arrest!  I was shocked, and I couldn't imagine why.  I was hand-cuffed, and placed in the back seat of the police car.  My girlfriend followed us downtown to bail me out!

On the way downtown, I learned that I had gotten a ticket the previous year, for, of all things...not having a registration tag on my car!  At the time, I thought it was stupid, and I tore up the ticket, and forgot about it!  Police should not be wasting their time, with registration tags, but should be looking for murdurers, bank robbers, etc.  At the time, I thought the ticket was a joke!

After we arrived downtown, I was treated like a common criminal...as all my possessions were taken, and I was escorted to a little holding cell about the size of a shoe box!  There was already another man in the cell when I got there, so this was going to be pretty cozy, etc.

From the jail cell, I could see what was going on in the booking office, and police brought in another fellow, who had been beaten about the head and face, and was bleeding all over the face and head!  The man had fresh blood all over his face and head, and he must have been beaten by police! 

The man was a bloody mess, and he was thrown in the same cell, with me and the other fellow!  I couldn't believe it...and now there were three men in this tiny cell!  Needless to say, I was quite nervous about being in the same cell with these two individuals, and I was starting to fear for my safety, as the two men kept staring at each other, as if they were going to get into a brawl!

Thirty minutes in the same cell with these two men, was like thirty years, as I waited for my girlfriend to get me out!  FINALLY...a police officer called my name, and escorted me out of the cell, and I was out on bail, and I was quite relieved when I left that awful cell with those two men!  This is the first time I had lost my freedom, and it didn't feel good at all!

Throughout the years, millions of Americans have paid the ultimate price for freedom...with their lives!  World War I; World War II; the Korean War; the disgraceful Viet Nam war; the Irag/Afganistan war, etc...and no...freedom is not free!  A few benefits of freedom follow: 

FREEDOM is all about hope and opportunity...for a better life for all the citizens of America.

FREEDOM allows all its U.S. citizens the freedom of speech and the free exchange of ideas with one another, which has made the United States the most powerful country in the world.

FREEDOM allows a citizen to criticize the President of the United States and other government officials...without fear of reprimand.

FREEDOM allows the citizens of the U.S. to run for public office...or NOT to run for public office...and do as we may choose.

FREEDOM allows a U.S. citizen to succeed in life...or to fail in life as well...the choice is with the individual. 

FREEDOM allows us to marry who we want, and when we want. 

FREEDOM allows us to have as many kids as we want...or not have any kids at all.

FREEDOM allows us to own a gun....to defend ourselves, if need be.

FREEDOM allows us all to have religious freedom, and worship where and how we want...OR not worship at all. 

FREEDOM allows all of us to build a website, and to express our ideas, and to show the world our creations.

FREEDOM even allows us to burn the U.S. Flag, if we so choose...but if someone respects the Flag...they will not damage it.

The disciples of the devil...Hitler; Sadaam; Noriega; Milosevic and others, cannot be allowed to rule and spread their hate among the innocent people around the world!  They must be dealt with!  The United States has the where-with-all to deal with this evil...but there will be bloodshed and lives will be lost!   

Yes...millions of American's have paid the ultimate price for freedom...with their lives...and Americans will continue to give their lives in the future for one of our most precious possessions...FREEDOM!  Freedom is not...and will never be free!  Hooray for the Red, White and Blue!
