I can remember back in the 1960's, when the hippies, yippies and zippies, or any of us under 20 years of age...couldn't trust anyone over 30, etc. And, when you say hello to the age of 60 like I have, being 40 years old, doesn't seem so bad!
In the year 2008...young is IN...and looking
young is IN, too! No old people need apply...and that goes for anything! I always see those 30 and 40 year old people, running for the hair dye section of the grocery store, to buy hair dye to look younger of course! This happens when they see their "first gray hair," and panic...the sky is falling, etc. Poor babies...he or she has one gray hair already that they have to cope with!
There are four categories of age in America.
1) the young; 2) middle age; 3) the old; 4) my but you're looking good these days! Does life begin at 40? As I said earlier...we thought 30 was old in the 60's...but for the 40 year olds...that's OLD!
You know you're getting old when...
A fortune-teller offers to read your face...rather than the lines in your hand!
You sink your teeth into a steak...and they stay there!
Dialing long-distance wears you out!
Your back goes out more than you do!
Your little black book contains only the names ending in M.D.
Everything hurts...and what doesn't hurt...doesn't work!
Your knees buckle...but your belt won't.
You feel like the morning after...but you haven't been anywhere!
The best part of your day...is when the alarm goes off in the morning and you're still alive!
You look forward to a dull evening...
"I'm tired of all the nonsense about beauty being only skin deep! What do you want...an adorable pancreas?" Jean Kerr
Today, in 2008...a person sees one gray hair...and they quickly go out and buy a 55 gallon drum of hair-coloring...and jump in it! People are throwing plastic all over their faces, to look younger once again! It's ugly, I tell you...it's
ugly!
"Judge me all you want. Just keep your verdict to yourself." French proverb
People all over the nation, are spending billions of dollars every year, on over-the-counter broken promises! A 45 year old, wants to look 25 years old again! A 65 year old, wants to look 18 again! FORGET IT...and, I hate to rain on your parade, but there's NO fountain of youth, and the quicker you realize this...the better you can cope with getting old!
Have you ever seen an 80 year old in a wheelchair? Like it or not...we're all headed there! Being young and looking young is where it's at today. But, let's face it...you can't make a race horse out of a donkey! Take a look in the mirror...what do you see? With all that plastic on your face...you look more like a store mannequin than a human being!
A few months ago, I saw an interview on television, with three of the writers of the old M.A.S.H. televison series, that ran on television for over a decade. There were two men and one woman in the interview and all were in their 50's age-wise. All writers agreed that by putting the fact that they were all writers on the old M.A.S.H. series...would date them, so they left that fact off their resumes!
"Judgements prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances." Wayne Dyer
WHAT? Do these writers really think that they're going to hide the fact that they're OLD! Give me a break! These writers still have to deal with an interview...and one way or another, people are going to find out approximately how old you are! Do these writers really think they're really going to look 22 years old again!
There's no turning back the clock! Creams; patches; hair dye; tummy-tucks; anti-aging pills; face-lifts; rugs (hair pieces); snake-oil...FORGET IT! I think a person can look better, by not throwing away their money on these products. They might look better with the use of these products...but they're not going to look younger!
"Small is the number of people who see with their eyes and think with their minds."
Albert Einstein
I think the key in all this age issue...is to NOT look OLDER than you are, or then you're in trouble! I've seen some people that I went to school with, and because of all the drinking, drugging and smoking they're done over their lifetimes...they look ten years older than they are!
Turning 40 years of age and 50 years of age, didn't bother me! But, when I turned 60 years of age...it bothered me! To use a football analogy...I have now entered the fourth quarter of my life, and the stadium clock is ticking down to the 2-minute warning, etc. And, it's getting scary, because millions of people across the nation die in their 60's!
"I'm not afraid to die...I just don't want to be there when it happens!" Woody Allen
As a nation, we place too much emphasis on being young...when we should be dealing more with the reality of things, etc. I decided a long time ago, that I would just grow old gracefully. I lost me hair and I don't wear a rug (wig); I don't color my hair; I will never get a face-life, even if I could afford one...and I'll just do the best I can with what I have.
"Old age is not so bad when you consider the alternative." Maurice Chevalier
I haven't changed much over the years, except for one teensey-weensey little change. I'm more resentful and hateful than I was before! And, for anyone out there, who is under the age of 60...
I HATE YOU!
