Lady Liberty watched over the New York harbor that awful day on September 11, 2001...as the 9/11 attacks on America unfolded! A total of 2,974 people died as a result...from over 90 countries!

When the surprise attacks came on September 11, 2001, I was off that day, and I didn't go to work. I watched everything that happened that awful day on television! When I saw the first airplace crash into the first tower, I thought it was out of Hollywood...a coming attraction for a movie or something! Hollywood can do almost anything, so I didn't pay much attention.
But, when the second airplane crashed into the second tower 15 minutes later...and the news reporters came on live on television, that was a different story! This was NOT Hollywood...this was for real! I knew then that America was being attacked!
I watched all day, as the events from New York unfolded! There were fires; explosions; smoke; dust and madness everywhere! People were running for their lives in every direction...yelling and screaming and everything was utter chaos! I was stunned and shocked at what was happening, and there were no words to describe the scene of total madness! I had never seen anything like this in my life...and it reminded me of Oklahoma City...only a hundred times worse! Who could do something like this?
Shock and sorrow, is what I felt, as so many, many people lost their lives and were injured in this senseless act! Emergency vehicles were everywhere attending to the injured, as police and firemen tried to get through the debris, etc.
I had a great sense of emptiness, as I watched the events unfold! Every emotion went through me...sorrow; outrage; mad as hell; helpess; and I wanted to kill somebody who would do something like this!

When i was a freshman in college, President Kennedy was shot, and on this day of 9/11 I had the same type of feelings...empty and hollow inside, etc.
I didn't want to believe what was happening that awful day of 9/11, as I watched television all day, through glassy-eyes and a lump in my throat! What made things worse and more scary, was the fact, that the Transportation Secretary in Washington, D.C., ordered all airline flights in the United States to be grounded immediately. "Are we at war?" I asked myself.
This was getting awfully scary, and I learned later on, that there were about 4,000 aricraft flying over the United States routinely, that had to come down immediately! Subsequently...all aircraft were grounded for three days! At the time, this sounded like war to me...but with who?
I continued to have that awful emptiness and a chill, as I watched helplessly all day long. Every emotion passed through my body that day...from hate to sorrow! A few tears trickled down my face, as I continued to watch television that day. I felt so helpless...and like all the others in the country watching...I could do nothing!
Hate and revenge went through my mind! I'm a Viet Nam era veteran, and I remember President Bush when he said, "Bring em on!" and I wanted to put on my Air Force blues and go out and bust some heads, etc. I think other veterans felt the same way!

This was one of the most terrible days of my life, and to all the American people, and people from other nations...will never be forgotten and they did not die in vain! They will always be remembered in our prayers! God bless everyone who gave their lives for their country, and God BLESS AMERICA!
