Everytime I see a smoker, he or she reminds me of a  dragon...with smoke bellowing out of their mouths; nose; ears and probably a few places where the sun don't shine!

Without a doubt...all smokers are dangerous!

When I started writing seriously in 2006, I promised myself I would not be a preacher or crusader for anything, so if a smoker wants to commit suicide...one puff at a time...go for it!  You know what the song says...one less egg to fry!

I'll repeat...I have zero tolerance for smoking and smokers!  I don't want smokers around me!  With that attitude, that pretty much leaves me out in the woods by myself, right?  I don't think so!  Little by little, non-smokers are gaining and pushing the smokers off the planet, and that's good!  That's good for everyone! 

I quit smoking in 1970, and I haven't touched a cigarette since that time, and it's one of the best things I've done in my life.  I was a light smoker and smoked about a pack a day, and I smoked for about five years. 

But, smoking is not only dangerous in a health sense, but smoking is dangerous to a relationship as well.  I met my ex-wife in the mid-1970's, when smoking was trendy and fashionable, if you can believe that!  That goes to show you how stupid we all were back then!  My wife smoked the entire 19 years we were together.  But at the time, it didn't matter to me, and smoking wasn't an issue.

But as time went on, smoking started having an effect on our relationship.  I think the anti-smoking movement started about the early 1990's sometime, and that's about the time our relationship started to sour!

For 19 years, I tried to help this woman stop smoking and it all fell on deaf ears!  She was always afraid to gain weight if she stopped smoking, but I told her, that if she gained weight after stopping smoking...we would deal with that issue, too!  (in one ear...and out the other!)  As time went by...she always seemed to have a cigarette in her mouth.  After about 17 to 18 years of this...it was starting to annoy me in a big way!  The smoking issue was now one of the top issues in our marriage!

When I first met her, she was a light smoker...with a cigarette here and a cigarette there, and that's why I didn't throw up the red flag!  But, as the years went by...the smoking got worse and worse and I was worried about her!  First thing in the morning...a cigarette!  Last thing at night...a cigarette!  And, if she awakened in the middle of the night...you guessed it...another cigarette!  And, every morning she was coughing and choking on a cigarette!

The cigarette became her constant companion, and I would get so mad...that when I went into the kitchen, and she was preparing a meal...she had a cigarette hanging out of her mouth!  I would go ovr to her...pull the cigarette out of her mouth...and drown it under the sink fawcett!  There was nothing more upsetting to me, than to see this!

Smoking was affecting our relationship and we were fighting more and more, and not speaking to each other more and more!  Our two boys, at the time were about 10 and 12, and I know the smoking was affecting them as well.  She didn't seem to care, as long she got her little "fix" each day!  And, I had the attitude, that we were going to have to find a solution to this problem, or we might not be together much longer!   By this time, she was not just coughing in the morning...she was coughing all day long! 

When two people argue and fight most of the time, the relationship starts to crumble...and that's what happened to us!  It finally came to a point where we were two ships in the night...passing each other and not speaking to each other...our realtionship was dying!  She probably wondered why I had not kissed her in years...who wants to kiss an ashtray?

We were getting nowhere fast with this issue, and in 2004, we went our separate ways, and the smoking went with her!  And, it wasn't the only reason why we parted...but it was one of the reasons why we parted after such a long time.

In 2008, I am single...and if a woman crosses my path...she will not smoke...and if she does...she can just keep on going!  Nineteen years around a smoker was more than enough for me...never again!
