It was the football season, and me and my wife,
went over to my parents to have dinner. Also there, was one of my brothers named Tommy and his wife, and we all had an enjoyable evening, talking about many subjects in our visit, etc.
One of the topics I talked to my brother about, was the up coming football season, and I couldn't remember who his team was in the NfL was...so I asked him. I had told my brother, that I had been a San Diego Chargers fan for over the past 20 years, and the team has no had much success, etc. And, I didn't know who his favorite team was, so he told me something unusual.
He told me...to keep from crying in his beer, he would choose the team that wins the Super Bowl, so he had many different teams over the years!
What? What does that mean"
I have never heard of anyone doing this, and was a surprise to me! "Are you telling me that you have, pretty much, a different team every year?
"That's exactly what I'm telling you...I can never lose that way, and there' never crying in my beer.
"I know your Chargers haven't won a Super Bowl, and I know they were humiliated when they lost to the 49er's a few years ago. That's why I do what I do...I can never be a loser"
"Let me see if I've got this straight...this year in 2009, you're a Pittsburg Steeler fan, because they won the Super Bowl, right? And, last year, you were a Giants fan, because New York won the Super Bowl...and the year before, you were a Colt fan, because Indianapolis won the Super Bowl. That's pretty easy to understand...you never lose, right? M-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m!"
"That's right, big brother...cry in your beer...I like that. And no, I've never cried in my beer or had a losing team...GO PITTSBURG"...my brother said excitedly!

When my wife and I first met, I asked her if she knew anything about football and she said, "Yes, I know a lot about football!"
"Okay, smarty-pants...what's a 'first-down?"
She thought for a moment and then said, "A first down is when the first guy gets knocked down!"
"Oh...g-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-z-z-z-z-z...

The year was 1988, and the Denver Broncos (AFC) were playing the Washington Redskins (NFC) in the Super Bowl. My wife, being the expert in football that she is, was a Denver fan at the time. Not because she knew so much about footaball, but she liked their color of the uniforms
Denver got off to a great start, as John Elway threw a touchdown pass on the very first play of about 75 yards, and Denver took the first lead. It must have made the Washington Redskins mad, because they came back with avengence, and destoryed the Denver Broncos and outplayed them throughout the game.
At the time, I had a workshop converted by dividing the garage in half, so I watched the game in my shop as the game went on.
Quarter one: About the end of the first quarter, my wife stuck her head into the show and asked, "What's the score?" And, I told her 19 to 7 in favor of Washington.
Quarter two: About the end of the 2 quarter, she again, poked her throught the workshop door and asked again, "What's the score, now?? I told her 30 to 7 in favor of Washington!
Things were not looking good for her Denver Broncos!
Quarter three: Again, she opened the door to the shop and asked about the score, which was 38-7 in favor of Washington!
End of the game: She came into the shop this time pretty much at the end of the game and she asked what the score was now. I told her it was a rout, with Washington leading Denver 42-10!
She stood there...hands on hips and said, "Why don't they just STOP the game?"
"Dearest," I said to her, "they don't stop football games! They stop boxing matches and golf games...but they don't stop football games! They play until there's a winner and the clock runs out!" No ties in the play-offs or in the Super Bowl, etc.
She, obviously, didn't like the looks of how the game turned out, so she went back in the house...to cry in her beer...just like I've done so many thousands of times in the past!
My Two-Cents: (comments/opinions/2009): Since this game was held, about twenty years ago, I've given up on sports for the most part. There are the obscene salaries for the players and coaches, that they don't deserve. And, of course, the cheating that goes on in sports...I'm turned off by all of it! I haven't watched a professional basketball or baseball game in over ten years! The NFL is next on my drop list, as the year 2009, may be my last year of watching the over-paid crybabies in football, etc. I don't plan to waste three/four hours of my time on football, either! These people should get a REAL job...to see what it's like to struggle!
I don't watch the Super Bowl every year...it depends on who's playing. Most of the Super Bowl games, have been boring and routs by one team or the other...and have been YAWNERS! The Super Bowl...filled with over-paid crybabies and spoiled brats! I have better things to do with my time than to watch the game, etc.
