But, there are two things that are certain about this woman...she has the confidence in herself and the courage to get up in front of a world-wide audience and WOW them!  And...WOW them she did...with her ability and talent to sing! 

The following article, which is entitled, "Susan Boyle Album Tops British Charts," and was written by Jennifer Quinn of the Associated Press and published in the Albuquerque Journal (USA) on November 30, 2009.

"LONDON:  Susan Boyle's debut record, "I Dreamed a Dream," entered the British album chart in the top spot on Sunday. (11-29-09)

The 48 year old Scotish songstress famously finished second on the "Britain's Got Talent," show but the variety show launched a career that has seen her win success on both sides of the Atlantic. 

According to Official Charts company, which tracks music sales in Britain, more than 400,000 copies of "I Dreamed a Dream," sold since the release on November 23, 2009, and make it the fastest selling album so far this year and the largest first week sales for a debut album in the U.K. chart history! 

Millions of people have seen the online clip of Boyle auditioning for the judges.  Wearing a somewhat dowdy frock and with a halo of untidy hair, Boyle told the judges and producer Simon Cowell, that her dream was to be a professional singer.  "I've never been given the opportunity before, and here's hoping that will change," she told them. 

She sang, "I Dreamed a Dream," from Les Miserbles, and her soaring vocals earned a smile and raised eyebrows from Cowell...and a standing ovation from the audience!

"Everyone expected this to be a big record, but not as big as this," said Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts company.  Of the more than 410,000 copies...both physical and digital...sold in Britain, he said.  The majority of buyers purchased the CD in the United States, and it was Amazon Music's largest pre-order in the company history. 

Boyle's cover on the Rolling Stone classic "Wild Horses," debuted in the ninth spot on Britain's single chart. 

Gennaro Castaldo, spokesman for the HMY music store company, said Boyle's record could challenge for the top spot at Christmas time...a highly coveted position in Britain's showbiz world."

MY TWO CENTS (opinions) 

The key word in this article is, "opportunity."  If given the opportunity, many people in different professions, would excel...but unfortunetely they are not given the opportunity.  I've always lived my life with the motto of the Boy Scouts..."Be Prepared."  As the reader can see...Susan Boyle was prepared when she got her opportunity. 

With respect to writing...my "opportunity" came with the invention of the Internet by "Mr. Cardboard" himself...Al Gore.  You know...he was the guy, who milked the taxpayers for years as Vice President. 

Anyway, I can relate to what happened to Susan Boyle..only on a much smaller scale.  I have never sold one of my articles, because I chose to enter the Free Market, as opposed to entering the Paying Markets in writing. 

When I started writing in 2006, I was hoping that a few of my articles would be picked up by website owners and published.  As it turned out, over 100 of my 140 articles (3 years) have been published on more than 500 websites on the Internet.  I have to pinch myself every time I see this number.

 If I don't make it in the world of writing...I'll just go back to the art world, where I've been for the last 30 years.  I've had the opportunity on the Internet...and now I just have to make the most of it!
