Now, that I have built a resume in writing (3 years), that is...over 90 of my articles have been published on more than 500 websites on the Internet.  The reader can see the two pages of publishing sites at the following direct link on my website;

At the directory, an article can be listed in a few different ways, but I usually list them in order of hits/views, so I can distinguish between those who are popular and getting attention and from those that need help, etc.  Just because an article is doing poorly in hits and view, doesn't mean that the piece is poorly written and needs attention, etc.

Unless I'm missing something, the articles at Authors Den, are listed in alphabetical order, so I've never really known where the articles stood as far as hits and views were concerned. 

One day, I took the time to arrange the articles in order that they ranked in hits/views, so I could see where I stood.  What I found, that as the list took shape, was amazing, and that many of my articles were doing better than expected. 

So, in the interest of space and brevity, I will share with the reader my top ten suprises, and the number shown to the left of the piece, is the number where the article currently ranks of my 140+ articles. 

My top ten pleasant surprises are as follows:

#2 - Sleep Deprivation and Diabetes (Type 2)

I am amazed at how well this piece is doing, and it can actually take the #1 spot in early 2010.  All the writing pieces start at the bottom of the list and go from there.  Ths piece started from the #96 spot and started to climb the list from there. 

 #4 - Young People Should Not Start Smoking;

This piece started at the #101 spot, and has been burning rubber ever since.  This piece is important to me, because if I can ever convince young people (or old people) not to smoke, it will be a great accomplishment, etc.  After 5 years of smoking, I quit at the age of 23 back in 1970. 

#5 - What Are We Doing to Each Other as a People?

This piece was first written in 2007 and posted on my directory.  It didn't do well after several months, and so I pulled and shelved it.  After nearly a year, I brought it back...changed the title...and re-arranged the piece.  It started climbing the list, after starting in the #91 spot and worked its way into the top ten articles! 

#9 - Constipation: Saying Hello to a Costly Enema!

I never thought I'd write an article on constipation...being on the receiving end of an enema...and spending seven hours in the emergency room...but here it is!  I wrote this piece in June, 2009, and it has taken it only 6 months to get into the top ten.  Amazing!

What can I say...now that I'm in the field of writing...this piece is very special to me.  I think we all want to make a difference in somebody else's life by doing something. 

 #13 - Welcome to the Funny Farm (mental illness)

This could be the most important piece I've written, because we're all going to have to deal with the issue of mental illness...whether it be for ourselves or a loved-one.  This piece deals with the postive and healing power of humor and how humor can help us all cope with mental illness.  This piece started in the #89 spot and worked its way up to the top twenty. 

 #14 - Immaturity: Why Can't the Government Grow Up?

This is another piece that was not doing well at the directory, so I pulled and shelved it, etc.  Several months later, I brought it back with a new title, and wrote it with a harsher approach.  I lived throughout the rebellion of the 1860's, and the government (at any level) has no right to stick its nose into the business of the People in a free society, etc.  I'm so pleased that this piece has come from the ashes and extinction, and now occupies a spot in the top 20! 

 #16 - Secondhand Smoke and Pets Make For a Toxic Mix;

This piece started out in the #111 spot and worked its way into the top 20, which is amazing!  I can't express to the reader the joy that this piece gives me, because it has done so well.  Pets don't have a choice as to who they will live with...it could be a non-smoker...or it could be a stinky smoker, who spreads their deadly chemicals everywhere!

 #22 - Calisthenics For the Brain;

I never thought I'd write an article on calisthenics for the brain either, but here it is, and I'm so glad it's doing well.  This is an article about those awful brain diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and dementia, and it is focused on retirees,  leaving the work place, etc.  Those who retire should keep their minds active with a hobby of some sort; a craft; painting; puzzles...to help keep away those terrible brain diseases.  This piece started at about the #88 spot, and has slowly climbed the charts, and I have never had to modify it. 

#23 - The Heros of 9/11 Will Never Be Forgotten!

This is another piece that has done only luke-warm at the directory.  I was expecting much better things from this article, but has done much better at Authors Den.  It started out from the #79 spot and worked its way into the top 25, so I'm quite pleased about that.

Another pleasant surprise, has been the fact, that the traffic to my site has quadrupled over the past 18 months.  Therefore, I appreciate everyone taking the time to visit, and the reader is the most important person in all of the publishing process. There have been many other pleasant surprises in writing thus far, and these have been just a few of them. 

What is one of the best ways to learn?  From others, right?  Learn from their experiences...good and bad...learn from their wisdom; their education; talents; skills...rejections and their failures, etc. 

Seniors can have a great opportunity here, as they have longevity on their side and the experience that goes with it.  They have many stories to tell.  After all...Grandma Moses didn't start painting until she was 78 years old, and look how much she accomplished. 

This piece that the reader is reading now...was scrapped after just a week after posting (last week of 09).  I didn't like it, and I tried to make it better by adding some humor to it, and I think it made it worse.  This piece was deleted in its entirety and re-written and given another title.  Let's hope it's going to do better this time!  (1/2/10) 

Talk about a pleasant surprise...in its first day, this piece debuted in the #1 spot in the Mainstream category and #32 in the top 50 most popular articles at Authors Den!  Amazing!
