So, I grew up having an open mind to almost everything...at least I'll listen to the pros and cons of an issue, etc.  After all, when it comes to global warming, I'm not a scientist, and I have to relay on what other experts tell me. 

I don't know for sure about global warming, but when I see all the drought and unusal wheather all over the country...I'm beginning to believe there is something called 'global warming' and I believe it is man-made! 

One day recently, I saw a documentary on PBS or Nova, and it dealt with technical and scientific issues of the country.  It was a discouraging piece for me to see, because the piece talked about how technical information entered one door of the White House...and the information was edited by non-technical people...and when the information came out of the other door of the White House...it was all edited down to tell the American people, etc. 

I found all this appalling, but everyone knows this has been going on for years in the government; the White House and the U.S. Congress.  They twist the information to benefit one party or the other!

As I said previously, I am not a scientist, but I do know that the Earth's atmosphere protects the earth from the sun...and if that is destroyed...we are all toast!  In this issue, the American people are certainly caught between a rock and a hard place! 

Over my four years in writing, I like to tell people that I live in a sleepy, one horse-town called Albuquerque, New Mexico, which has a population of about 500,000, including the horse.  Albuquerque is split right down the middle by the Rio Grande river...which everyone knows is one of the longest rivers in America.  I live about seven miles from the river.

In 2010, the river is threatened by drought...and the citizens are threated by drought as well...because the river is drying up!

Over my past four years of writing, I have written about 190 articles on various subjects, and rather than paraphrasing an article and getting it wrong...I have chosen to quote directly from the article and get it right, etc.  I have done this, if I think the issue is important enough such as the issues of homelessness; losing weight; quitting smoking; teen court, etc.

The following article was written by John Fleck, a staff writer of the Albuquerque Journal, and the piece was published in the Journal on October 6, 2010.

Rio Grande Is at Low Level In Albuquerque

"Water agencies are scrambling to find enough water to keep the Rio Grande wet through Albuquerque after the river dropped last week to its lowest level in six years.

The discussions reflect a new reality on the middle Rio Grande, as the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority diverts increasing amounts of water from the river to provide drinking water for the metro area.  Last weekends' rain, along with the cooler weather, pushed the river back up over the week-end.

"It bought us some time," said Leann Towne, head of water management operations for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's Albuquerque office. 

But the river has dropped again to unusually low levels, as the three major agencies responsible for water management in the middle Rio Grande work out details of an agreement to keep the river from drying up. 

"The deal is needed to meet requirements of the Endangered Species Act, which requires minimum flows under the Central Avenue bridge in Albuquerque to keep local population of endangered Rio Grande silvery minnows alive. 

The three agencies...the Bureau of Reclamation; the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District and the water utility...will combine efforts to use water now stored in reserviors upstream to keep the Rio Grande flowing, according to participants in the ongoing discussions. 

"We all have an interest in meeting that flow requirement at Central Avenue," Towne said in an interview.  The agreement will allow the water utility to continue drawing its drinking water supply from the Rio Grande without violating Endangered Species Act rules.  If the Rio Grande drops too much at Central, the river water diversion would have to be shut down, and the utility would have to get all its supply by pumping ground water, said John Stomp, the water resources manager. 

That's where the utility previously obtained drinking water for the metro area.  But in order to stop depleting the areas's groundwater, the utility began diverting water from the river in 2008.  The diversions have increased substantially this year. 

Officials say there is sufficent water in upstream in water storage to keep the river flowing through Albuquerque over the next few months, Towne estimated it could take as much as 10,000 acre feet of water to keep the Rio Grande flowing in October (2010) ...equivalent to the amount of water used by 20,000 to 30,000 households.

But water users are trying to balance the need for minnow flows with worries about next year's supply because of the forecast for a dry winter. 

"The concern is conserving what they have now for next year," Towne said.  In a complex state-approved water accounting swap, the utility diverts both water imported into the Rio Grande from the Colorado River Basin and so-called 'native water' at a dam near Alameda at the north end of town.  Some of that water...after it has been treated at the utility's sewage treatment plant at the south end of town.  Between the north and the south ends, those diversions mean less water flowing down the Rio Grande through Albuquerque. 

But the effect on downstream users is also noticeable, said conservancy district hydrologist David Gensler.  The district supplies water to farmers, and the water utility's operations have reduced the amount of irrigation water available at the district's Isleta diversion dam, Gensler said in an interview. 

In recent weeks, the conservancy district has been releasing water from upstream storage dams for its irrigators.  The water flows down the Rio Chama and Rio Crande to the diversion dams, where it is shunted into irrigation canals.  But not all the water has been making it all the way down the river to where the farmers need it, according to Gensler. 

One area where water is being lost is the Albuquerque stretch, where historic groundwater pumping by the water utility and others has lowered the water table in areas flanking the river. 

As a result of that past pumping, water literally leaks out of the river's bed into the ground below, said Nabil Shafke, a hydrologist with the New Mexico Stream Commission.

One thing is certain and cannot be denied by anyone...if the Earth's atmosphere is distroyed by man or anthing else...we will all be toast! 

As I see it, the American people have three dismal choices to make in their future. 

1)  Believe the spin coming out of the White House, with Emperor Obummer as the lead spinner;

2) Believe the rhetoric (aka lies) coming out of the U.S. Congress;

3) Become toast!  Here again, you have a choice; over-easy; over-medium; well done!  (place your order now!) 

So, please don't belly-ache and get testy...because you've got choices!  If you have a bitch...send a letter to President Obummer!
