I think to lose one's memory would be awful.
"Memory is a diary we all carry around with us." Oscar Wilde
One day last week, I cooked up some biscuits, and I ate a couple of them with breakfast that day. But, a couple of days later, when I went to find them to have biscuits and gravy...I couldn't find them. I knew I cooked them, but I couldn't find them!
"We don't remember days...we remember moments." Cesar Pavese
I looked all over the place for the biscuits...all over the refrigerator; the freezer; the kitchen cabinets; the broom closet; under the bed; behind the couch; in the bathroom...nothing...I couldn't find the biscuits. "Am I losing my mind?" I thought to myself.
About three days later...a thought came to my mind...I know one place I didn't look...the OVEN! Could they still be in the oven after three days! I raced to the stove and opened the oven door...and there they were! All eight biscuits were in the oven...minus the two I ate for breakfast that day. Whew...I thought I was losing my mind!
"I'm always fascinated by the way memory diffuses fact." Diane Sawyer
You know how all those Ladies and Gentlemen of the U.S. Congress have poor memories...especially after the indictment comes down? All of them...can't remember anything.
At 66 years of age...it's that time, you know! The biscuits were harder than rocks after three days in the oven! I threw one on the floor and it put a dent in the floor tile! I could use these hard biscuits for door stops, I suppose. Better yet, I could send them off to one of the ice hockey teams, and they could use them for hockey pucks. And then I thought twice...na-a-a-a-h...these buscuits could endanger the hockey players. The biscuits could be considered 'weapons of mass destruction!'
Why don't you join me for breakfast in the morning...we'll have some biscuits and grave...I mean biscuits and gravy...and some strangled eggs on the side. (bring your own chisel and hammar)
From: Wikipedia.com; A puck is a disk used in various games serving the same functions as a ball does in ball games.
I felt relieved that I was not losing my mind...but I did forget to take the biscuits out of the oven in the first place. That worries me! I wish I could forget about my bills...but no luck!
"A man with a clear conscience probably has a poor memory." Author unknown
As I get older, I worry more about loss of memory. I remember when I was in the hospital for over three months, there was a veteran I saw for the first time who had dementia. The nurse told me that he was a 48 year old with the mind of a two year old. He had to be fed and bathed everyday. He was only in our ward for about ten days, and he was then moved to an institution of some kind, etc. Seeing someone with dementia had such an impact on me, that I wrote an article that describes the situation. The title of that article is as follows;
Remembering Manuel...

I keep the article in my home office, right in front of me on the wall, as a reminder how bad life can be. I will never forget Manuel.
"Memory is what tells a man his wife's birthday was yesterday." Mario Rocco
At age 66, I still feel pretty good physically and mentally. So much so, that I can give all those 30 year olds a lesson or two out on the dance floor...that is if I can remember where the dance floor is located. One thing is certain...if I should have memory loss in the future...there is one positive thing...I can hide my own Easter eggs...
